Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Not sure exactly why but lately the ink on the JetPro transfers (on whites) has been slightly running. The images have always gotten slightly faded but now not only are they slightly fading but they are slightly running too (enough that the t-shirt has a weird shade of yellow-purple where the image is).
Originally I assumed it was the fact I was printing high quality when it says to print normal quality. However, I switched to normal quality and am having the same problem. It's mainly happening with black but by all means could be from other colours as well.
It's weird because it only happens on some t-shirts. It is very important that I solve this immediately as the last thing I need is customers returning ruined t-shirts.
Anyone have this problem or any suggestions on how to fix it?
The ink is probably the issue. I know you don't know the name of it, but do you know if it is pigment ink? This running is happening after you wash the shirt once?
One more thing ... are you saying this is just happening all of a sudden? You've used this same ink with JPSS in the past with no running? Is this a new batch of JPSS?
Same batch of JPSS, however, maybe the climate it was in was too moist? It's been a humid summer...lol...
I've had the paper for about a month and a half now thats why that could be a possibility.
I also think it might be the way it was washed? But I mean, all of my designs get very slightly faded after the first wash just the designs have only ran 2 or 3 times...
I'm no expert, but I really think the ink is the culprit. I've never had problems with JPSS running and there are a couple of threads around here where people have really abused JPSS in the wash (even with bleach) with no significant loss of quality.
I'm in Atlanta and it's always humid here ... except for the one day in January where it snows. 1) Are you pre-pressing to get the moisture out of the shirt? 2) Are you storing your blank JPSS or pre-printed JPSS transfers in an air-tight bag?
You said it only happens with some shirts. Are they poly shirts? Could it be the ink just isn't melding/mixing with the shirt fabric. I have no real idea, just some thoughts and would like to know the answer when you get it figured out.
Well I thought I had solved the problem (by changing ink quality from Normal to Normal/Low) and it worked for a little while.
But out of nowhere it happened again.
Now, I think I have pin-pointed the issue.
Basically, I have hypothesized that the ink only runs on t-shirts that use the first few transfers I have printed once putting a new ink cartridge in my printer.
The shirt's that have been running include American Apparel 2001 whites and Alstyle 1701 whites. So it isn't the poly/cotton.
I'm going to keep trying to solve this issue and I'll let everyone know the conclusion I come to.
