Default Beginner's Pitfalls?

Hi folks...

Okay, let's say I buy a heat press. I'm leaning towards the Mighty Press 15 by 15.

Now, when I take it home will I be able to print my first shirt and be successful, or what traps and pitfalls exist for the beginner?

Is it as easy as setting temperature and pressure and getting a perfect result? Or is there a "touch" of some kind for getting it right?

you dont get in a car the first time and drive flawlessly...but heat presses is pretty simple...get the right paper for the material, follow the instructions for time, temp and pressure and you will be fine. I suggest that the first time user cut the first transfer into several pieces and press each one on a scrap piece of material to get the right 'feel'

Why would you cut the pieces seperately? Just for added practice? I'm just wondering what you mean because I am looking into doing heat presses and vinyl eventually too
