Pressing PLASTISOL on shirts that have been washed a few times...
Hi all. I have a quick question I'd really appreciate some answers to: I have a few baby rib shirts (I think they're 1x1...). I have washed them several times already to test for shrinkage etc.
I have just received my heat press and some sample plastisol transfers --- will my transfer results be typical/usual, considering that I have already washed the shirts a few times? (No bleach, hung dry). In the future I will not wash the shirts before pressing them - will the results be the same on the washed as the unwashed shirts?
Re: Pressing PLASTISOL on shirts that have been washed a few times...
In my option, Yes the Plastisol is a PVC, like sprinkler pipe only with color pigment and a lot thinner. Whatever you print it on, if its cured @ about 370 degrees it should stick.

Thank you for your comment, John. I am just curious as to whether the "fiber lift" that occurs with cotton over time and after multiple washings would have any affect on the quality of the print?

I have shirts that I have worn for over a year and washed regular. The designs do some wear, but are not lifting from the fabric. I think if the instructions are followed, you should have no fabric lift issues. .... JB

Thank you so much!
Yes, transfers will adhear just as well just make sure you prepress at least 10 sec to heat shirt and get rid of any mosture in shirt.
Re: Pressing PLASTISOL on shirts that have been washed a few times...
You should have no problems with pressing transfers on those shirts after washing. The only problem might be the 1X1 rib. With time, I can see the ribs stretching and affecting the transfer.
It's unfortunate that 1X1 rib shirts are so popular with the ladies items and many baby onesies. They're what people want, but they make things just a little more problematic.
