Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Hi Justin. Some commercial operations on production runs will have an operator using three semi automatic presses. That is presses that open automatically when the time is reached.
Heat transfers and vinyls usually tie up the machine for about a minute with aligning and removing the garment. Sublimation about two minutes. On top of this you have the time to take the garments out of the boxes and to fold them up neatly afterwards.
Using a manual press, you can easily do ten tees an hour, but whether you'd have the stamina (or inclination) to do that for ten hours solid, is another story.
The most I have been able to do with alpha for darks is about 45 a day and that was from start to finish in about 9 hours, this included printing too. I didn't work too hard though. I did some yesterday with JPSS and did 12 shirts in about 45 minutes, the hot peel makes a big difference.
EDIT ADD - These are front and back..

most ive done in one day was 75. .it didnt take all day.. but ill tell ya.. I was reallllllllly sore the next couple days.. They were sublimated and needed heavy pressure.. I wish i had a heat press that was easier to close on heavy pressure and auto opened..lol
Shirts are not my primary source of business. So I usually only do runs of like 25 shirts or so.. at a time.
I can do about 200 front in back plastisol transfers in about 8 hours. I get in a zone and I don't stop. I normally have someone folding for me and bring me more shirts. I'm sore the next day, but I have done this more than once. .... JB

JB Your da Man .. hehe..
what kinda press do you have?
I have a 15 x 15 mighty press.
I have a Hix 15x15, no bells or whistles. Just plain old hard work. .... JB

Front only, or back only, you can flat-out-rock...
It's when it gets into two-sided that things slow down... I just got a second smaller press precisely for the fronts... Still gonna be the hassle of dressing the Hix 400D, but hey...
The thing that takes me the longest is putting the shirt on the bottom platen for the back, after I put something on the front - is there an easy way to deal with this?
I put a teflon slip cover on the bottom platen. This allows for protection and shirt shirt slides easier. This was worth the money for the ease of double pressing and not worrying about a teflon sheet. ..... JB
