Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Does anyoneone have a few sources of subliminal transfers either Premade or where to get custom ones made. I will be starting a few commercial projects with mugs, tiles & awards.
Thanks

subliminal, as in they're their but not really their? just kidding.
Hi. To make your own, you only need an inkjet printer filled with sublimation ink and sublimation transfer paper.
It may sound obvious, but you'll need a flat heat press for the tiles and awards and a mug press for the mugs.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
I only have a HP that uses the vista ink. I am taking baby steps and got the press. with the attachments and I want to do some mugs etc to get extra $ to possibly upgrade to a printer that i can do my own. But in the mean time I still want to offer products to my customers. YKWIM
Epson will be the best brand of printer for sublimation when you decide to progress at a later stage. The heads are ideally suited to sublimation ink and colour correction profiles are readily available for them.

Most Epson inkjet printers will work with sublimation inks. Models may have changed around by the time you come to purchase. You want to ensure you can get a bulk feeder for the model you choose, as much cheaper on ink.

Cool Deal - As DH sits on the phone with me saying "we need to buy more stuff" lol
In the next couple months I'll be getting into sublimation also. Had to make a choice recently between a new plotter/cutter, or the sublimation. I almost have the money now to get into sublimation.
I'm going to go with the Epson 1400 printer because it has a wider format. It can handle up to 13 inches wide so you can do full size designs on adult shirts. It's only around $300. The main killer is the cost of the inks.

Be aware when buying an Epson printer for sublimation printing. Only certain printers are recommended. this is because a printing profile is required for the printer in order for it to print correctly with the sub ink. While sublimation ink will probably go thru any epson printer you will not be happy with the results unless you have the correct print profile installed on the printer. You should check DyeSub.org - An educational site for dye sublimation and digital transfer printing. or www.tropicalgraphics.com for more info on this subject.

mytransfersource.com and amerasource.com both make custom dye sub transfers

Hi. Although I can't speak for every Epson model, I have found that a 4 colour profile designed for one Epson model, works with other another 4 colour Epson model. Likewise a 6 colour profile has worked with another 6 colour Epson model. I downloaded the profiles free of charge and they both worked fine for me.
You can also get third party colour correction software, that gives you far greater control.
But for a lot of folks, myself included, buying sub transfers works. I don't do enough subbing to keep a printer happy.
If you are considering getting into this, be aware that you HAVE to keep your printer in use. That means you have to print -something- every day. Or else you get one seriously munged printer.
And at several hundred bucks, that can negate a LOT of profits.
