Default Heat Transfers: Your Chance to Post The Final Decision on CIS, ink, and paper PLEASE!

This site has been very kind to me getting started. I have searched all the threads on this site concerning these questions, and have tried to piece it all together, but this would be a great compilation thread, and will end many loose threads that I have been reading!

I now own a heat press and an Epson 1400. I have decided to be ready for both Heat Transfer and Sublimation. This post is in regards to my Heat Transfer setup!

A] I need a CIS system and Ink for the 1400, as I plan bulking with the Heat Transfers. Two questions:
1) Is this all I will need (besides paper) to heat transfer?
2)What specific CIS and Ink do I buy? Say I am going with pigment ink, I want to know everything to buy to be ready to go!

B] Heat transfer paper. I am looking to buy a roll to fit the 1400. Questions:
1)What paper roll you think is best?
2)Is there a paper that is good with both light and dark, as I would prefer that? Otherwise, necessary to have a dark and light roll?
3)Does dark and light refer to the color of the shirt or the base of the transfer design?

I will have questions on setting up a system where I can do both Heat Transfer and Sublimation. If anyone has know-how or experience in this, I would love to ask you a few specialized questions. Let me know the best way to contact!

Many thanks you all!

Hi Abomb, that are all very legal basic questions.

Yesterday I tried to put an answer to a lot of such questions and I promised to put not again such a long reply. Long posts some people feel as annoying! Therefore just follow this link so I don't have to write it again:-))

Hi Aaaron. To do both heat transfer and sublimation, the only specific thing you'll need is two dedicated printers. One filled with sublimation ink and the other with pigment ink. You cannot realistically use the same printer for both.

That's what I needed to hear for my Heat Transfer system. I really appreciate it. I will go with pigment inks. Looking into the paper you mentioned. Start up costs are REALLY tight, so that will play a bit of a factor. Thank you for the time to help me out!

Plus, folks can't seem to all come together with "what is the best."

It also seems like some stuff is actually made by just one or two companies, but marketed under many brand names.

Having a hard time deciphering the paper "conglomorates". Wish I could just go to the store and see them all separated. Are there any 'non-biased' sites that sell both, but side by side you think?
