Default Pressing uneven material solution

I have seen several posts about pressing a transfer onto uneven material like the front of a polo shirt where the buttons get in the way. Well, the only thing I had available was a few mouse pad blanks.

I took the blank, put a teflon sheet over it, put the shirt over that and set the pressure for the same as the mouse pad and it seemed to work pretty well.

Any thoughts on why I shouldn't do this?

I was thinking of cutting a few up to make a sleeve and pocket template.

Nope, it works Great.
I keep a couple of different sizes nearby, for this purpose. I glued the cardboard that came with my larger pad to the back of it, for better handling. (Badalouism #?, I can't keep up with the numbers any longer!)

I have done so many I can't keep up myself. I am going to do a tote bag with large side gussets and I need to raise my center where the design is going to go more than a 5/8 to clear all the uneven areas so I am using a 1/8 sheet of wood topped by a large mouse pad 1/4 cut to just a little larger than the design I am placing on the bags.
