Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
The company I am working with sells the Instapress clamshell style.....the rep says the swingaway style is no better or different than clamshell, just takes up more space. Is this true? What should I buy? Is the Insta clamshell press ok? etc etc...t.hanx
I think you will get a lot of opinions on which press is best. I really like the HIX brand myself. I will say that for production work, I make better time with a clamshell because their is one less step(you don't have to swing it to and fro). I like the clam type for this reason. I also like the non digital press, because there is less to go wronfg. .... JB
There are numerous brands out there. Do your research & get a 16"x20" size. You will find yourself needing a larger press sooner than later. just my .02 We have a very old 15"x15" swingaway which works very well, but we are in dire need of a 16"x20" for doing the larger sweatshirts.

I agree the 16x20 is the best choice if you can afford it. You print small with a big press, but not big with a small press. You can print larger designs with a smaller press ,but not real easy. ..... JB
Hi. Swing away presses are my personal choice. They do take up a little more room, but there is less chance of you touching the hot plate with the back of your fingers (ouch)!
If you are planning to do a lot of shirts in a day, then the clam type might be a better option for you, as it's slightly quicker to operate.
If you are going to be using your press a lot, then definitely go for one with a digital controller.
