hi, another heat press opinion seeker...

i screenprint onto fabric (not t-shirts) and then sew the fabric into various bags and accessories. i am looking into a heat press and plastisol transfers in order to test out smallish runs of new designs. i think i can get away with a 9 x 12 press, i.e. the hix hobby lite or the jetpress 12, given the type of things i make, which are usually pretty small.

do these light use presses do well with plastisol transfers, or do they not provide enough pressure? any other issues i should be aware of?

does anyone have experience with using a heat press on fabric other than t-shirts?

You know that if you are working with small designs up to 4"x6" for example, you can Even use a Good Home Hand Hot Iron with Good quality Hot Peel plastisol transfers that print on all fabic colors (black etc.) and on most types of fabrics (cotton, linen, fleece, denim, polyesters etc... ).

To make them stick extra good (if you want), you cover the print with teflon sheet and give it a second press...and Cold Peel.

really? i thought that household irons couldn't provide the needed pressure! that could be good news.

okay, then what if the design is a bit larger, say in the 8 x 10 range? would those heat presses work well enough? i am guessing if an iron could do it, then it would be okay....

really.

For the custom transfers i mentioned all you need is medium/firm downard force (pressure) to apply. So have a good brunch before you start your project. LOL

For stock transfer sold off the shelf like from ProWorld and others, most are made for Heat Press apply ONLY.

But do get a heat press, all pros own one and they are not to expensive.
