Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
It certainly is affordable, but have you seen it in person? Have you seen it in use? I would be wary of the quality until I could see it myself.
The flat press seems too small to be useful for apparel, I could not live without my 16" x 20" flat press at this point.
The arguments against combo presses include:
If it breaks, all your equipment is down
They tend to do many jobs fairly rather than one job very well
You have to spend time waiting for platens to cool before you can switch out
The only argument I can think of FOR them is:
You do not have the space for anything else
Just one opinion! Good luck with your decision. Knowing the types of items you want to press should help you decide what press is best for you. Just because you CAN press everything, doesn't mean you should! :-)
I don't know about this combo unit, but I never liked the idea of combo things, example : if you get a digital camera that can record videos, probably it does one thing poorly, in this case videos. And if you are serious about videos, then you have to buy a video camera.
In my opinion combos things are just a compromise. It is just my opinion .
I'm sure everyone here will agree......Just start with the good ol' t-shirt press After a few sales you can buy whatever else you need. Check ebay, craigslist and you might get lucky if you're on a major budget
Specific reasons why I would not buy a combo press:
You can only do one thing at a time. This may not seem important right now, but once you get going, it will make a difference. For example, with a flat press and a cap press, two people can be working on the same t-shirt job...pressing a large image on the back (flat press), and an over the heart on the front (cap press).
If you want to switch from caps to flats, you're going to have to wait for the unit to cool down, and then remove what you don't need, and install what you do need.
That's a lot of wasted time...especially on small orders.
If it breaks, you got nothin'...no cap press, no flat press...you're out of business until it's fixed.
It just make sense if you are going to print some pictures of your kids (if you have any) on t-shirts for grandma so she can proudly show it off. Or use it for very small runs from time to time. If you are trying to get into this business it doesn't worth.
I have not used a combo heat press, but have used othe combo products. I heve nevr been happy with the results. I decided to only buy single use products. I will not buy a apple peeler to peel potatos ..... JB
we have a combo press. t-shirt platen, and a cap attachment.
I love the heat press, but I hate doing hats!! I dont like waiting for the heat press to cool down to get to the hats. The platens are heavy and a big pain in the rear to switch out! I like to have oven mitts at the shop so I dont have to wait quite so long.
Would we buy it again......no. But I do like the quality of the press we have. I dont have any complaints about that.

hey so do you reckon the quality would be any better if you had bought a mug press etc seperately, im not really looking to use print on caps but yeah on mugs and i heard the cap attachment also allows you to print on smaller things such as keyrings, lighters, pens etc
With the brand we bought, I believe the quality would still be top knotch. But that is because George Knight has a good product, so I wouldnt question the quality.
