Beginner Needs Help - Pressing Light and Dark Transfers
I just bought a heat press (link below) and I'm trying to get started but I'm having trouble. I was wondering what are your recommendations on temperatures and times for white and black t shirts. For the white t shirt i was following the instructions that came with the light transfers and I went 375 degrees for 15 seconds but the image wouldnt transfer on the t shirt. I tried upping the temperature to 400 and it wouldnt transfer all the way. Then I started using longer time, but then it would burn the shirt. I'm just having a lot of trouble. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again,
Steve
Here is the link for the press i bought if that makes a difference in the time and temperature recommendations.

First off what type of printer do you have and what brand transfer papers are you using? Meantime you can try increasing the pressure from heavy to very heavy setting. I press very heavy to a point sometimes that I have to use two hands to close the press.
As far as scorching goes you can use teflon sheet to cover both trnasfer and shirt when pressing the transfer paper. Short of that some suggested to use spray bottle filled with water and spray on the scorched area.

Hi Steve, to add to Luis' already good advice, JPSS - Jetprosofstretch is the best paper for lights out on the market at the time. If you aren't using that, switching to it may solve alot of your problems. It can be found at tshirtsupplies.com. Secondly, if you Don't have a printer using pigment inks, at epson.com, the c120 printer is on sale refurb'd for $36.00 right now, in the clearance section. I already have a c88+, and picked one myself up bc that is even cheaper then a set of refill of inks for my printer.
Lastly, here is a post I wrote a while back, pls forgive me but to save my fingers from Alot of redundant typing, I'm going to hook you up with a link. I wrote out the process on step-by-step how to "press" paper and the additional materials that get the job done, as well as why they help. Here you go, hope it helps you out: http://www.t-shirtforums.com/heat-pr...tml#post229735
How are you doing, Luis? Good to see you, friend. Oh, did you see I bought an old Graphtec cutter? FC2100-50... lol... I'll be experimenting with that soon... maybe one day the Laser stuff too. Have a great night.

I am fine thank you for asking. How about you?
Oh! Now I am dying with envy. I have to settle for Craft Robo Pro since I made a mistake in buying a CE3000-40 which is a non optic registration reader vinyl cutter . Anybody looking for one ?
Have a great night to you also.

Lol, you know there's always "someone" looking for a cutter.
Well, I got a great deal on the Graphtec which is why I picked it up, but there's nooo reason for envy, it doesn't have an optical eye. I'm going to cut my teeth on this one and work my way up...

You must not be planning in using it to contour cut transfers. That is the reason why bought Craft Robo Pro.

Yeah, not yet, for now - just going to work in vinyl and learn the graphics programs before I sink any serious money into the contour cutting machines. I have too much to learn to invest that big yet. I'm doing fine for now not really trimming the JPSS. Later, when I can run with the pack.
But best wishes with yours, that is awesome. Are you going to be cutting JPSS? We're highjacking this thread I think. Better PM. lol.
Steve, if you are going to end up wanting to cut the excess polymer off your transfer papers with a cutter, Luis and I just gave you some good dialogue on cutters and their use and capabilities... Hope it's useful someday.

Sorry steve. These are good info though.
Kelly, to answer your question I probably will not unless I have to use JPSS on light color fabrics other than white or ash.
