Default Just starting out in UK - advice welcome

Hello!

I've just been browsing the forums looking for UK specific advice regarding heat presses and printing methods. I've been working on some designs and have tested them out using inkjet paper + iron, but obviously the quality isn't that great. I've decided to get some plastisol transfer samples made up, but from browsing this forum and the net I notice that some printing companies seem to promote a particular brand of press and the instructions are tailored towards that setup. As UK prices seem to be a bit more expensive than US (even taking into account shipping) I was thinking along the lines of buying a named intermediate level press from US. I can imagine different brands of the same model of press vary a fair bit, so I'm feeling pretty confused. I've read the article on 5 tips on which heat press to buy, but my main concern is forking out a lot of money on a press and ending up with a load of custom transfers which are incompatible.

Another solution would be to buy second hand, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any shops in the UK which sell presses?

I am looking to spend £300 - £400 and will be printing on T-shirts.

Hi Fishirts,

As long as the press heats up to the right temperature and presses at an even pressure and is the right size you can't go wrong. Any press will work with any transfers.

Where have you looked at presses yet, there as tons in the UK for up to £400 and you can always lease if cash is short. Try to google heat press if you have not already. You may find a supplier like subli-nation selling reconditioned or ex demo presses, or look on ebay for a named press.

Good luck with your venture.

Lee
