Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I just bought a pack of transfers for the 1st time and used them twice with my inkjet printer.
I tried to transfer an image onto a 100% cotton black t shirt with my iron but each time it is just appearing very faintly after i peel. You can barely see the image on the t shirt.
you really need a heat press and should not use a iron. The heat press will provide pressure and even heat, that is needed to adhere the image to the garment,A iron just doesn't do the job. ....... JB
Unfortunately a heat press isn't an option. Yes I used the iron for the black t shirt.
I am getting nothing resembling an image. It is sticking to the shirt fine but the final result is just a shadowey version of what the image should look like.
Yeah, like freemane1 said, there are two types of inkjet transfer papers – one for light garments that is translucent and one for dark garments that is opaque. Sounds like you are using the one for light garments.
only to piggy back off others, Please make sure that you are using transfer paper for doar colors. You will know it because you will not mirror the image but print it face up and then peel the transfer off and then press it.

Is this the kind of transfer were you don't reverse it when you print it, you peel it off before you iron it, and then use a sheet to cover it when you iron it?
Is the color good before proessing, but faded after wards?

I second every post here, and it sounds like you are making progress. Please note, without pigment ink it's true, your image will fade, and if you do not use a good paper, your image will crack and peel. If these are for your own personal use and you are A-ok with that, then I'm sure we're happy to have helped. If you would like to make a better product, we can help you with that easy enough as well. For a better product, first click on the link Mrdavid gave you. There is a write up in there on how to hand iron properly, what professional papers will give you great results, and you will need to find a pigment ink printer. Only temporary glitch is the dark paper in there, Ironall Dark, is having production issues at the moment and I cannot recommend you buy that.
Otherwise, let us know if you need us again, and welcome to the forum.
