Default How do you weed and press letters with Alpha Gold?

I like Alpha Gold and I'm trying to figure out what is possible with it.

If I want to create a transfer that says:

T-ShirtForums.com

How do I just press the letters only. I have a Roland GX24 and can do the cuts but if I weed it, the print is still left on the original paper. how do I then get my weeded design off the paper backing?

I tried mask but the print would not lift off the paper backing.

What am I missing?

I think you mirror the design on the paper and trim it with your cutter( yyou will need a carrier sheet to feed the paper through the cutter). You would then heat press it on the garment with a heat press. ..... JB

what kind of carrier mask do you have?

I called imprintables warehouse & paper ranch last week and spoke to Josh(IW) and Ryan(PR) about this process..... I did not know that there were different kinds of carriers because I am new to this "carrier' stuff but am now going to get into it.

There is a carrier tape that looks like tan painters tape(@ PR)....and there is a clear carrier tape as well(@IW).
From what I have been told .... the "painters tape looking" carrier tape is not as sticky.... so, it will not pull the ink off on an opaque inkjet transfer when you are peeling after pressing.(hope I said that right?)
The clear carrier tape is very sticky and might pull off some ink when useing it with opaque inkjet transfers.
I think that I understood both of them correctly..... but like I said ...I am totally new to this whole "carrier" thing!!!

Give Josh a call... he is very nice and VERY helpful!!!!!

my newbie brain would think..... that after you "weed" and your left with the letters ... maybe lift up on the top part of the letters, just to get them started.... then as you are peeling your carrier off it might help "start" the transfer peeling?????

don't listen to me though.... I do not even have my cutter yet!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!

Really! Unless you want the letters backwards. I have seen shirts done intentionally mirrored.

I have not used it but Alpha Gold is an opaque transfer. Opaque is pressed facing up.

Gang,

I just got a PM from The Magic Touch salesman about a sample package of 10 WOW 7.1 self weeding opaque transfer with softpad. Send him an email stating that you are a Tshirtforums member to get the discount at [email address]

He also posted this in the forums in general:

Yes ...kinda.

I bought the mask that you can heat press. (TTD Mask I believe?)

From what I understand there's two common brands of Mask that you can heat press. One is the TTD and the other is Magic Mask.

I cut the paper without the mask and then weedeing everything that I did not wish to press. I then took the TTD mask and placed it over the front side of the transfer. When I went to peel the print off the backing paper it did not want to lift. SO I had to pull out my weeding tool and get the tranfer started. I had to help the tranfer peel off in serveral areas but I ended up getting it all.

The tranfer paper started to curl up on some areas of the mask so there is not a good stick between the two, even after the peel has been pulled off.

I would like to try a stickier heat press mask if I could find one.

On another note, I used the TTD mask for JPSS by placing it on the back of the JPSS and cutting through the whole transfer. The mask worked great for this use except after you press and peel the mask, the back of the JPSS does not come off with the mask so you have to start peeling all of backing paper from the JPSS as quick as you can. It can get crazy if you have a lot of different sections like a bunch of letters.

Maybe there's an easier way?..........

That's funny : )

I could be wrong but when I first ordered it, it only said TTD Mask and now it says both. I thought I saw someone recomend Magic Mask from Stalh's but I never went looking to buy it because I wanted to try TTD Mask first. I heard it was the best verses Magic Mask.

I could be wrong but I think they just added Magic Mask to the Description?

Ithought JPSS can be peeled hot or cold. Have you tried cold peeling?

Another member, chani, cuts and weeds the polymer only and leaves the backing paper intact that way it makes it easy for her to peel the backing paper.
