Is it even worth it to do INKJet transfers with an Iron?

Default Is it even worth it to do INKJet transfers with an Iron?

I was going to get into doing some t-shirts, but after reading through the forum a bit I was starting to get down. I only have an iron and no heat press.

I read about Plasticol transfers and was getting excited for that, but I don't have a $1,000 heat press.

I started to read about Vinyl and got excited about that, but I don't have a $1,000 for a cutter.

I did some designs and while somewhat simple there are a few things that would be a pain in the *** to cut out by hand.

1) I was just curious if anyone had any examples of normal IRON heat transfers.

2) I guess it's a bitter sweet thing, but I told my cousin about my idea and he's told a few people now. They all want a shirt, but I was wondering if there is a way to make exact copies of shirts using a INKJET printer? I have a basic logo, but I want it to be in the same place on the shirts and look about the same.

Anyway, thanks for the help. Hopefully, someone can lift my spirits. :x

You really need a heat press to do a proper job. I would think you could find a used heat press for under $400.00 on Ebay or Graig's list. If it's worth doing,iy's worth doing right. Good luck and best wishes. ..... JB

Absolutely, an iron just does not offer the same quality job as a heat press does. Although I was in your position at one point wanting to do tshirts but not having a press in my posession, I didn't give up on my dream. I would say don't get discouraged so easy. I set money aside and started shopping ebay and Craigs list for used presses. I bought my equipment a little at a time. It took a little longer but I was able to purchase everything needed (while still creating a few more designs) to offer while waiting to begin my business. It's worth the wait, not everyone can drop 3-4k to get everything going with top of the line equipment and that's ok . Any job worth doing and dreaming about is worth doing right and offering the best product you can. Just be a little patient, save back some money, shop for used but good quality equipment and work from there. Good luck.

to do transfers..as Rick and JB have said...you need a press...and the reason is that you need constant, even heat with even pressure...something you cannot achieve with an iron. watch for specials on heat presses..you will get a discount at one of our vendors..you should be able to get a mighty press for under $600 if you look around. One word of caution...do not buy a chinese press off ebay unless you can afford to take a chance...some work....some don't...and parts/service are a pain...

You can get a decent deal if you are patient
