220° C?

In that case the temperature is way too high!

220 F is too low for transfer.
If you have given a temperature in fahrenheit and want to convert to celcius:

subtract 32 from the fahrenheit temperature.
divide by 1.8.

I use temps up to 205 degrees Celcius on my press which equals 400 degress F . This is the temp that the transfer instructions give . What I would do is get a oven thermometer you know the long metal spike one and clamp the spike between the heat press when it has reached the temp you have dialed in , the temp can be a long way out from what you think you have . Also have a look at getting a teflon sheet to cover the shirt when pressing . Do a search on the net , they have different sizes for different presses . And good luck with it all

Yeah thats what it sounds like to me as well, either the press is set way to hot or running hot. Verify your press is getting to the temp you have dialed in.

If you can't avoid the scorching, many people here use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water to get rid of it. I haven't tried it, but you can get more info here:

Removing Scorching

and here:

Scorching. Hydrogen Peroxide. Yellowing Returning
