Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Ok, Im about to make the phone call to imprintables, and buy the Rolans GX-24, but before I make the deal.... Can you print on vinyl? Thats pretty much the only reason I want an Optical Eye, so I can cut prints. I will use transfer papers straight to my garmets... but Can I print on vinyl, then send it to my Roland GX24? Im newbie, I dont want to spend 1695 plus, if I dont need to!? Thanks!
The GX24 is a cutter only. You can trim your transfers with it or cut vinyl. If you want to print on vinyl you will need a much more expensive machine.Roland makes vinyl printers and Imprintables carries them, but they are much more costly. ...... JB
Of course you can print on vinyl.... how do you think decals & vehicle wraps are made? The question is what printer do you have??
A low end vinyl printer (maybe a roland print/cut 300 series, or mutoh 1200 series) will cost $10k.
The printers have to heat the vinyl and use solvent based ink. Even though it is an inkjet, it is a bit different
I think she means can you print on standard vinyl with a standard inkjet printer.
The answer is no.
We knew it wouldn't work, but we tried it anyway with our pigment inks, and we were right...the ink just puddled up on the vinyl.
You really do need a special printer to print on vinyl.
THANKZZ and I think its so humbling and funny that you made then attempt to see for yourself, AWESOME!! I purchased my roland gx-24 and WOW I feel so relieved. God is Good and I cant wait to see how my business will turn out!

You helped me out! Yea, I really didnt plan on buying a roland AND a 10k machine, haha, but you clarified it for me. Thanx and bunches. I guess I didnt want to buy the GX-24 if i couldnt cut printed vinyl, but then again, what if customers bring me JPGS and wants them cut?!! I didnt think about that now did I. Again, thanks.

I sometimes print on vinyl with my Epson 7800. There are a few companies that make special vinyl rolls for inkjets (duraGraphix (sp?) is one). I believe I saw an ad in the last Wraps magazine for a company that claims you can do standard inkjet wraps using their vinyl (don't know about that one, but who knows, with a good laminate maybe... ).
You need to print>laminate>cut or resin dome your print&cuts to make them last, but it is possible.
