Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I have been asked to do quilt squares for a customer for their family reunion to be auctioned off. Does anyone have any input on making these? What type of fabric? Can I use an Epson C88+ with JPSS paper? What is the going price I should charge for 8X10 and 5X7? This will be my first attempt at this and want it to last for the customer. If I can make this customer happy with a lasting product, this will turn into many repeat orders. This comes from a large family who has ordered can koozies, coasters and mini candy bars in the past. I don't want to accept this if I can't make it a lasting and washable quilt square so please be honest with your advice.
i've made them before using dye sublimation - no hand and the image lasts forever BUT it can't be done on cotton....i bought 100% poly yard goods in a thicker and very soft fabric weight - the made the lining with cotton.
but...since quilts aren't typically washed as frequently as tees, i would think that the JPSS would be quite nice if you're getting good clear prints with your inks.

You can print directly on cotton. The best way I've found to do this is to get the sheets that already have a backing, and are treated so that it won't wash out...as opposed to making your own by fusing it to freezer paper.
The print on cotton sheets that you can get at the craft store, are not treated...the image will wash out.
Dharma Trading has the brand that is pre-treated, so your image won't wash out.
I would go with JPSS and make sure you are doing on cotton. The image will last over any other heat transfer inthe wash.

I agree. My wife is a avid quilter and just finished a quilt for her niece. This paper has worked well for my wife. She has tried other paper for other quilts and told me the JPSS paper is the best. ...... JB
Thank you all for your replies!!! Does it matter what material I use other than it being cotton? Thread count? I don't sew or quilt so I'm clueless to what material to use.
