Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
My customer is providing me with plastisol transfers & garments (poly-mix fabric - very precise placement due to piping). There are 100pcs - 10 of which need 2 locations pressed.
Could someone point me in the right direction as to how I should structure my pricing? Thanks!!

We generally try to avoid having customers provide transfers or garments due to quality control concerns. Also, you make no margin on shirts or transfers, so it is a little tough. The rule of thumb in our shop is that we expect to make about $3.00 for closing the press. On a large order like you have, it might be $2.00. Less than that will make it difficult to cover all of your costs and have any profit left.
I charge $2.00 per side to press if customer supplies garment and transfer. If I supply garment or transfer or both I mark up the price of materials 40% and just charge $2.00 to print. That is based on the 100 pcs. figure you stated. Price starts at $5.00 per pressed side when doing one offs and smaller orders with price breaks starting at 12-20 pieces.
You have both been a great help - that was the ballpark I was thinking. But because of the lack of markup capabilities & potential cost of mistakes I wanted to make sure I was covering my behind.
Jim - I hear ya - usually I don't take jobs where the customer provides the garments either, but this is an especially good client so I wanted to be able to handle all their needs.
Thank you both for your input!! I feel much more confident now in sending my quote over.

May I also suggest that you inform your customer that it is normal to expect a 2% waste of product. This way you will not be responsible for that inevitable bad transfer, bad shirt, or mistake.
