Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Recently viewed a BadLou video that mentioned using a mouse pad to elevate a selected portion of a T-shirt for heat transfer. Yesterday I was doing IronAll dark at 375 F and thought I'd give it a try. I used a wetsuit type mouse pad (neoprene with nylon covering)..not only did it not work, it might even qualify as a disaster. Judging by the distortion on the mouse pad when I finally got it to release from the shirt, I'd say it drew much of the heat away from the shirt. That and the IronAll dark did not have good adhesion for probably the same reason. What did I misunderstand? Where did I go wrong?
Re: Mouse pad to elevate area of T-shirt on press?
I've seen "cutting up a wetsuit to use as the pad" recommended before as well. I didn't see any follow up that it didn't work out, but, I do know Lou put alot of research into making sure his material was the "proper" kind of material for this job.
Not all 'mouse pad' stuff is made to take the heat. Sorry it went badly, disasters are "no fun".
Re: Mouse pad to elevate area of T-shirt on press?

Re: Mouse pad to elevate area of T-shirt on press?
I have a set of t pad its and they work great. I also use the tsquareit, the tools that Lou invents and sells are tested, tried, and true for for the purpose that are sold . I know Lou and his products are in a class by themselves. Thanks Lou for all your hard work and dedication to make our industry better. ...... JB
Re: Mouse pad to elevate area of T-shirt on press?
I just wanted to second the opinion on the TeePadIt and TeeSquareIt products. I can't imagine doing my tees without them now that I have them. It's a little bit of investment that pays off big time in saved time and reduction of waste.
Re: Mouse pad to elevate area of T-shirt on press?
The response to this thread has given me the confidence that it can be done. Should I attempt this again, I'll look for a better quality mouse pad. Thank You
