Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I am in a real pickle. I have a major fundraiser delivery of shirts for a local high school baseball team that was due this past weekend. I received a new package of IronALL dark transfers on Wednesday last & proceeded to waste close to $50 in transfers until I finally figured out that it had to be the transfers themself.
I've tried both durabrite & the epson ink I've used in the past with these transfers. The last batch I purchased was in late November and I was COMPLETELY happy with them. Has something changed? These transfers seem flimsier, the flaking is unbelievable and I am burning up $ trying everything under the sun. The teflon sheets & parchment (take your pick) are "lifting" the ink off of the transfer when I peel.
I talked to a man on Friday night who told me I was the 10th person who called about it, said I had a bad batch and told me to email them. I emailed them with the problems on Saturday and have not had a response since. I paid for 2nd day delivery last week hoping to churn them out & now I am just sick to my stomach.
I ordered a new batch of the Everlast dark from Coastal and now I'm worried that it is the same company making them and I'll be stuck with the same problems. Help me please! Thanks
I"m sorry to hear your situation. I use Ironall Dark, too, and have recently heard of the flaking problem returning. This is an old problem that was addressed and gone, until now again. Everlast from Coastal is indeed Ironall Dark under a different name. I hope you have better luck with the new batch.
One thing I don't understand is the teflon lifting the image as you peel. Do you mean after the second press, it is lifting the image with the teflon, or after the initial pressing? What time and temp are you pressing at?
thanks for responding so quickly. I typically press 5-10 seconds at 375 with zero problems & great success. I usually layer parchment, then the teflon sheet over it (to prevent any bleeding onto plate). At this point I've tried every combination under the sun including temp, different printers, different ink, you name it! I'm really at a loss considering how great the first 100 batch I had was...so effortless.
You're welcome. I press Ironall Dark at 360-365* for 16 seconds at med-high pressure. Will that work? I also prepress the shirt for 7 seconds before I press the transfer. then repress for about 5 seconds after. If you try these and they work, will you let me know? Thanks. I hope it all works out for you.
I also had trouble with my first attempt trying everlast dark. I had alot of spots on the transfer that peeled up on the parchment paper after I pressed for 17 sec. at 375 deg with medium pressure.Peeled hot. I was using durabrite inks. I only have one sample left so the next time I dont want to take any chances. I also didnt use teflon. ?????
dL, I would say to increase your pressure. That's a pretty hot temp and a kind of long dwell for Everlast. I know it is in the acceptable range for pressing, but does the transfer become translucent at all? I press a little cooler temp and shorter dwell but more pressure. Pressure is what the press is for. Add pressure and alot of adhesion problems usually go away. The only thing that might cause you a headache is if your press is not reaching actual temp it is set for. Do you have access to a laser temp reader (IR gun?)?

I basically do the same thing, pre press for 10, then I do 375 for exactly 10 seconds with medium pressure and then peel the parchment hot usually. I don't notice much of a difference from when I peel it cold. Is it just the area where ink is that is peeling off? Your white border, if you left some, is that remaining opaque and smooth looking, not pitted or looking like the parchment did the same thing to that area when peeled?
