Default HIX HT400D ?????'s Please help

Ok I have a few questions if you all could give me some info.

I just purchased the HIX HT 400D and so far it seems to be ok. I have run into a few issues that was hoping one of you could help me on.

So I purchased this machine through coastal buisness supplies. They said it was a better machine than the Mighty press and they have sold more of these than the other brands they carry. So I went ahead and purchased this heat press.

Seems very sturdy. I read some reviews that it was better to have a lower floating platen than a top floating platen. Is this correct or as long as the upper or lower platen floats its all gravy????

When I purchased this machine I got it as a package with the GX24 Roland cutter and it came with some easyweed and video flex vinyl.

IT took me a bit to figure out the correct force to cut with to weed out the design I was doing. but once I got that down the design weeded awsome.

The first few pressess I did with the HIX came out great. seem like there was no flaws at all and was very confident that I got the right gear for what I am doing.

then I tried some other designs and notice that some of the parts of the designs were lifting up with the clear paper that the easy weed is attached to. I pressed it again and still the same thing parts of that design lifted up but the same parts.

Is it the material or the preassure I am using or not the correct heat. The instructions said 302 degrees for 10-15 seconds so I let it go the full 15 seconds. It is a hot peel material.

What do you all think is the problem..Is the machine not working right or is it the easy weed material???

I called up Vinyl Cutters, heat presses, heat transfer material, transfer papers and heat printing supplies all at affordable prices. after doing some research and seeing Josh is you tube videos and his website about the spectra eco film..I order 10 yards of black and 10 yards of white to test out. They told me that the it was probably the material as the easy weed had known problems of this happening. They said that the temps need to be right on point and that the eco film is more versitile than the easy weed as far as longetivity and weeding and pressing. Just wanted your folks input on this as I am new to all this and am trying to gather as much info as possible.

I now see alot of folks talke about those pheonix machines and hottronix..so had made my brain wonder if the machine I got was a good well known name in the industry and if the eco film is better than the easy weed..

please help me as I only have so long in order to do any returns on this machine..

The pheonix machine is nice but I dont think for me its worth paying $300 for an auto lift but if its a better machine to use than I think it will be worth the $300..

Thanks to anyone out there that can shed some light on these issues..

Hi Rich,

I have the same press and I can bet it is not your machine.

All of the vinyl typically reacts a bit different depending on the room temperature, humidity, moisture in the garments and also if you cut through the backing when plotting the design.

First things, pre-press your garment to ensure that all the moisture is out. also make sure the material is ok for the vinyl. For Example some vinyl will not stick to nylon well.

Then check that you didn't cut through the mylar backing. If you did, reduce the downforce on your GX-24 and try again.

If that is ok, try adding a bit more pressure to your heat press. Sometimes just a twist or two will make all the difference.

Also try contacting the vinyl manufacturer to see what they say. If you have tried aeverythign it could be the material and they may send a replacement piece.

Thanks for your reply Jim,

I called to coastal and they told me to use just alittle more preasure. I did some mouse pads with a lot of detail and it transfered great. I am expecting the eco films on monday so Hopefully it weeds as good as the easy weed and works better like I was told. I am having lots of fun with these new machines. Skys the limit right??

The sky is the limit, just keep tryin new things out and you'll be amazed what you can do and what you will learn.

Do be prepared for mistakes and to ruin some stuff though.
