Question What's The Deal? can't get rid of square block residue around inkjet transfers

Hey Guy's
I've read the threads I have seen Lou's videos and followed the instructions.... But the Iron all for lights and also the best blank for lights still fail me I can not get rid of that unsightly hard square block of a mess that's left on the shirts after I press the image. What's the deal? The instructions declare 375 degrees for 25-30 sec. Lay parchment paper on top during press did all that but still... same old same old. This can not be what we are giving to our customers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot everybody for this great forum.

You need to cut away as much of that unprinted paper, either with a cutter or by hand.

The detail of some of these designs would make this a lil difficult and time consuming but I guess that would eliminate a lot of the unsightliness.
Thanks for your advise!

You could go to a self weeding paper, like ImageClip, but that's a laser paper.

try creating your design within a shape other than a box.

What does self weeding mean?

The designs are not boxy at all I thought that was the problem (them Not being boxy) It just sound like trimming is the only way at this point.

That's cool. The transfers we are using of course have the material already applied.
Thanks

Image clip is a two step paper used with CLC printers. There are several posts about this paper on the forum. This paper might solve your problem. You can also check into a cutter with an optic registration eye that cuts out your design using registration marks as a guide. There is an abundance of info on this cutter also available on the forum.

You should also try JetPro Soft Stretch. From what I read, it's even better than ironall for lights.

However, with any inkjet transfer paper, you have to trim around the design. That waxy border thing will always be there, but trimming around the image helps to minimize it.

Some people use scissors, some people use an exacto knife, some people use a vinyl cutter that has an optic eye (like the Roland GX-24)

Rodeny, for some strange reason I thought the Ironall and other recommended transfers would not leave that waxy border. Now that I know I can't eliminate that border I'll just trim. Later I will try the JPSS and see how it works.
Thanks Rodney

Hey Sly,

If you try out the JPSS, you can get it at a great price at tshirtsupplies.com. They have a 3 pg sample pack for a penny, with low shipping.

I switched from Ironall light to the JPSS (jetprosofstretch). The polymer box still transfers, that's true and you've seen that now, but it's not too noticable with the JPSS. Once JPSS is washed, the hand gets softer and softer and the polymer fades away. Once my shirts are washed about 3-5X, I can close my eyes and run my hand across and not have a sense of where the design starts. Nice stuff.

A friend on the forum just washed the JPSS with a cup of bleach. No color change, haha, I'm loving this stuff. No fade issues, same stretchy feature as Ironall light. Now if they'd only make the Dark for JPSS, not out yet.

You've already gotten the low down that you'd need to get a plotter to trim your designs for you to rid your transfer of any extra unprinted areas, unless you use that exacto knife. To avoid this, since I don't have a plotter, I stick with borders, and filled in boxes. Works for my stuff, but I see alot of designs that wouldn't work for. Good luck to you.

If your at all interested in a cutter, there's a testing thread going on. Cutters also open up the world of vinyl to you, tshirts and signs. They are great machines.

Here's the cutter comparison thread: (I'm linking you in to where Chani gets the cutters) I Bought A Copam from US Cutter - Time to compare UScutter - Graphtec CE5000-60 - Roland GX 24

And another one on JPSS and a plotter, also by Chani: Jet-Pro SofStretch (inkjet heat transfer paper) vs Plotter Test - with pictures!.

Alrighty, that's all, good luck to you!

I don't use inkjet transfers but use laser transfers. I always do second press for about 5 secs after I remove the transfer sheet. I cover the shirt with a teflon sheet first. This seems to get rid of any residue left on the shirt. It may work for inkjet transfers also.
