Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I quoted a 50 t-shirt job at $14/each. They want a 1-color pocket design on the front, a full-color picture on the back, & possibly some text on the back too. They would be white shirts, sizes S-XL.
For this job I would be using t-shirt vinyl & JPSS along with my heat press. Pigment ink of course on my Epson R200. Shirts would be Gildan Ultra Cotton.
They called around to price check the competition. Two places said $12-13 & one said $9. I told them to make sure the one for $9 wasn't going to tack on screen charges or art design charges. The customer said they understood that to be the final price.
I'm thinking about trying to get closer to the other prices so that I can get the job. $9 seems way to cheap, but $10.75 to $11 sounds reasonable.

What would you do in a case like this?
If it was me I would go with the screen printer. Why.. because to is going to stand up longer then inkjet transfers. I am a big backer of JPSS in fact I was the first one to really use it as I was sent test paper. But it has its limitations going up against screen printing . Even if the other company does charge screen charges. so you customer may be easily persuaded by the other company based on those arguments. But.. now why you would do better based on the fact that you said full color picture. Is the screen printer able to do that with screen printing. The answer is yes but at what cost. How were they able to do a quote on that.
How many different colors would be needed to screen print a typical color picture? The picture they have is of all 50 people together in a group photo.

That is what I am saying. A screen printer could not do what you can do with a picture. That is where you have the advantage.. It is wording that they get the upper hand. so JPSS is the best way to go for the picture.

When you get up to 50 pieces and up, screen printing sometimes is a better option.
Screen printing isn't really limited to the number of colors it can do.
There are some very detailed, very colorful screen printed t-shirts out there.
The main issue is screen printing lots of colors isn't cost effective at lower quantities like (12-20 pieces).
$14 each for an order of 50 t-shirts sounds like a lot of money to me. It could be done by DTG or screen printing for less.
JPSS sounds like a great paper, but I'm not sure I would use it for such high volume orders.
