Hey, I posted this in the Welcome forum. I don't think I'll get as much help there as in a specific forum. So I am quoting the post.

Hey,
How is everyone doing? My name is Dan. Well, I am trying to get into printing t shirts. Admittedly, I don't know much about the whole process.
I designed a few things in Photoshop (Been using Photoshop for about six+ years) and when I called up my local t-shirt printing place they wanted over $25 per print, so I decided to look into doing it myself.
Well, I bought an Inkjet printer after doing a quick google search for what I need to do some transfers. It's not the best, but it's a good starting place.
Basically, I was wondering if anyone had any tips for someone getting into transfer paper prints for the first time? Maybe some tutorials or something would help.
I'm eager to learn and any help is appreciated. Best inks, paper, optimal photoshop settings and any other tips that could help is also appreciated.

oh yeah, I did check the forum for heat press. I don't know if it was the right forum, but it had labels for ink and transfer paper. Anyway, I read the FAQ and it had to do more with Plasticol instead of what I am looking for (I think).
Just wanted to let you know that I did read through the forum before posting. | | | | | |
After reading a bit more today, I've learned quite a bit more than I knew at that post (yeah, I know only one day..)
Heat Transfer aren't good for Dark shirts? Even if I get the paper used for dark transfers?
Ok, I was basically curious to this:
What is the best blank t-shirt to get? I read a bit and saw that Gildan is among the favorites. I also saw that Article 1 is nice because they have tear-away tags. Does Gildan do that as well?
What is the best INK to use? I read that pigmant ink is used for more outdoor use. It wears the color overtime to give that fade look. I want my colors to be more vibrant, though. One design I have is a very bright green that has other greens involved that I want to "pop".
What is a Cutter? I read through the t-shirt dictionary on here, but it wasn't on there. Do I need to bother with Heat Transfer?
Finally, I have a design that has a gradient that fades to transparent. Can I do that stuff with heat transfer?
Ok, thanks for the help guys. I am really loving the forum. It's like heaven for t-shirt printers (new and old).
