Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I have tried several transfer papers and I am not completely satisfied yet- What have so far has been too hard and some have even ran and faded after washing, could someone let me know what they are having the best results with...
Also, I am following the instructions on a brand of transfer paper I purchased and on white t-shirts I am getting a yellowing stain looking effect on them. The paper instructions calls for 25 seconds and 350-375 degree temp. Is the yellow because of the temp too high and time too long?
I've tested a lot of papers and finally went with the Conde.com stuff. I have had excellent results with it. Give them a call, they'll gladly send you some samples to try.
Well, I suppose it depends on what type of transfers your are doing, but myself I do color laser transfers and am very pleased with them. I primarily transfer onto hard surfaces (metal, plastic, wood) but do some t-shirt transfers. If you do call Conde, just make sure you tell them the printing process you are doing and they will send sample paper for your particular printer. I use the Oki 6100 and they have paper specifically designed for that machine, so I am told.
For inkjet paper, the absolute best in my opinion (and many others') is Jet-Pro SofStretch. EXCELLENT hand and washability, almost NO fading, even with dye inks for some people.
If you're getting yellowing on your shirt when you're pressing, there's a chance that your press is not reading the correct temperature. I've pressed many shirts at 375 for 30 seconds, and have never had the scorching problem. I print on 100% cotton and some 50/50's.
I'd suggest buying a laser or IR thermometer and checking your press temperature across your entire platten to see if that's the issue.
If you have a Harbor Freight nearby, you can check there for an IR (Infra Red) thermometer. I think they're really cheap there. I don't have one, so I can't say for sure.
