This was my situation: my daughter is celebrating her 5th birthday party this coming weekend. Most of the kids are her age, but as with any group of people, some are smaller, and some are larger. I decided that the youth size 2-4 would be too small for most, so when my daughter received a Hanes size 6-8 shirt as a gift and it fit, I decided to order the size 6-8 for the party shirts.
My next issue was what brand to get. I've used the Hanes Heavyweight and Jerzees before and they were OK, but the neck is always a little tight and the fabric a little thin. Since I've loved using the Gildan Ultra Cotton, I thought I'd order the Gildan 50/50 (works the best with
JPSS). Knowing Gildan's reputation for being sized a bit bigger, I checked several different sites, and the measurement for the same shirt was different from site to site. If I remember correctly, I went to the Gildan website and even called Hanes and Jerzees. With no significant difference in size, I ordered the Gildan. WHAT A MISTAKE!
I printed, trimmed, pre-pressed and pressed the shirts yesterday while my daughter was napping (killing two birds with one stone, I was thinking), and when she got up, I had done 32 shirts. I was so proud to show her, and of course, she wanted to wear the t-shirt NOW! Well, it fit LIKE A NIGHTGOWN! IT IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only that, but the neckline is really big and open, so the design, even though applied about 2.25" from the bottom of the neckline, appears ON HER STOMACH! I AM SO PISSED THAT I SPENT ALL THIS TIME AND MONEY, AND THE SHIRTS ARE GOING TO BE BIG ON EVERYONE. UUuuuuuuuggghhhh!
I was also very upset that when comparing two Gildan shirts of the same size, there was an 1" difference in the width and the length of the shirt... Never again!
