Default cap press ques???

What is the highest temp a cap press is suppose to get to? Sublimation cap press and cap press are the same thing, right . The reason I ask, I believe if I can make hats to go with my shirts, it would be a much easier sale. I bought a nice package for specialty-graphics, and now the funds are getting low. After some research, I decided to go with chinese made cap press. (I know , I know, but funds are LOW!) They refer to it as a sublimation cap press, so it kinda of thru me off a little. I did notice one thing, they listed that the temp would reach 299 degrees. So, I looked around, and no-one seems to advertise the highest temp level on cap presses. If someone can lend some knowledge, it would be ,appreciated!!!

you will need 400 F as Jan says...I have a hotronix hat press that goes over 400...I have plate press..that goes over 400..use for sublimation but can also do small items...like on sleeves..etc So if the press only goes to 299 and that is F...not Celsius then don't touch it...if is Celsius then..maybe..

ok, so I have a funny cap press story... I am a noob, but have now been pressing since last summer. I was at an event and my embroiderer brought me her cap press to play with and I loved it! My friends looked on Craigslist and found me a cheap, chinese, cap press for a song, it sells on Ebay for 275 plus 99 shipping. The press was new, only used one time. I was tickled, I bought it, brought it home. Turned it on and it read 190 I thought that was a bit low so I cranked it up to 350 and guess what? wow, oh wow did it smell and it singed my hat! Immediately I knew what had happened. It was set to 190c! so, back down I set it to my temp of 185c and it works like a champ. For how long, who knows... but for the price I was willing to take the risk. I bet that is 299c... Good luck!

pete...the one you linked to is 299C...that is over 500F I think..I know that 202 or so is around 400F..so it is likely the press you are looking at is a celsius machine... I have never seen a US measurement that is in other than even numbers...300, 330 400 etc..never a 299..or 187 or...???

You'll need to have a plug available that is capable of producing 220V. I installed one in my basement, or my electrician uncle and my father-in-law did rather.

Your best bet is probably going to be ebay. Maybe check craigslist too.

jlwsales is the vendor that sells the chinese one I bought used, it is $379 after shipping if you buy it now.

So, keep in mind I had used a Hix 250D, top of the line $640 before I bought my cheap special, and the Hix had some very nice features and the element you wrap the cap over was a tad smaller, sized better for my caps, but the larger sized attachment does work pretty well. The Hix had a 'stretch' device at the bottom to pull the cap smooth while pressing the one I got does not. Both have digital temp and count down readout which I like. Keep an eye on the classifieds here, Craigslist and Ebay.
