Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Hello, Im brand new to this site. It looks like a great site and I look forward to sharing with everyone.
I have a clothing line that has words on both front and back. Is it possible to make these look good with heat transfer? Do I have to print a image on the shirt or can I just print the letters from the words?

Hi Kevin:
If you're planning on using inkjet transfers, I would stay away from letters – unless you have a plotter cutter that can trim them out for you (but there will still be a polymer border around each letter).
Your best bet would be to have some plastisol transfers made. Or you could use vinyl (again you'd need a plotter cutter for that). Or I suppose you could buy pre-cut vinyl letters, but I would think that wouldn't be very cost effective.
There are a number of sources for plastisol transfers, and pre-cut or custom cut vinyl. I use Transfer Express, and Stahls -- in my opinion these are good starting places for noobies.
I think using sources such as those will give you a frame of reference for each method, and help you figure out what you want to use for each individual item. It will also help you decide if you want a vinyl cutter, and how much cutter you need.
