Default Ready to spend the dough on a heat press

I'm ready to let go of the money for a press and wondered if any of you folks had experience with either of these presses. I'm looking at the Might Press Digital Clamshell 16x20 and the Hix - HT-600D Digital Clamshell 16x20.

I had considered the dk20 as well, but I'm just not sure about it not having the floating platen. I like it's features better, but I'm not sure if the floating head is really so important.

I would really appreciate your feedback. This is my first major business purchase and I want to do this right the first time.

I'm also trying to find a printer. Budget says I may have to go with 8.5x11 for now. What are your thoughts on the printer size issue?

Thanks for your help.

I have just bought a Hotronix Autoclam 16/16 and i haven't looked back it has a digital timer and a floating platen, i had a cheap e-bay 1 before and what a diff this makes hope this helps I found the auto opening such a huge help i wouldn't go back to manual again so if the budget goes to it go for it

We have the HIX HT-400D. We love it! We wish we could have gotten a 16x20, but our apartment circuits wouldn't have taken it.

I'd say that most people here use an 8.5x11 printer and do just fine. I like larger prints, tho, so I personally prefer 11x17 transfers.

I do suggest getting a floating platten, otherwise on thicker garments like sweatshirts you may have issues with your transfer not pressing properly (not enough pressure in the front of your press).

Also, I highly suggest you get a teflon pillow the same size as your platten, and press with your garment on that. That will allow you to have your shirts' necklines on your lower plattens, and if you ever need to press hoodies with pockets or any garment with a sipper or bottons, you'll have no problems. The teflon pillow evens out the pressure across your entire garment.
