Out of the box, no, it doesn't use the correct ink. It uses dye-based inks and you want pigment-based inks. There are continuous ink systems (CIS) for the 1400, tho. I suggest getting this printer and a CIS using Pigment inks.

Thanks for that you two, how much would a CIS using Pigment inks cost for the 1400?

I'm not sure if there are better deals out there or not, but one of our forum sponsors, Alpha Supply, has a CIS for the 1400 that costs $379.

one thing to remember...sometimes a CIS system is not the easiest to get to work and buying from a known source with some tech support is invaluable. I know there are cheaper units on ebay...but I also know some of those units are difficult to get set up

I should've added that. Yes, I DO NOT suggest buying one from Ebay.

I'm nervous about the one I got for my Canon i9900, but it was the only one I could find. It's on the cheaper side, but I did do some checking for reviews on this one, and most were excellent.

I suggest when you find one, check around on Google to see what others are saying about it. If you see a lot of negatives, stay away.

Yes, but it's also an 8-ink system and I'd suggest getting a CIS or bulk ink system of some sort anyway if you're planning on printing transfers.

the extra inks in the 1800 are great for photos but they do not really add much for the normal transfers

I hope I steered you right in this. That's what I would have done if I'd not been able to find a CIS for my Canon i9900.

Just make sure you don't leave your printer idle for too long and you should be okay.

I've found that if I haven't printed for a couple days if I do a test print on normal paper it clears everything up and then prints just fine.
