Default T Shirt Overheated?

Hi,

Trying my first t shirt printing but found some problem with the result. Need advice from you guys.

I am using a Mighty Press with medium pressure and abt 375F. Timing was at 30s.

Transfer paper used is JetPro Soft Stretch.
I didnt use any cover like teflon sheet when pressing and the shirt is 100% cotton.

The transfer looks ok, however, the shirt looks like there's a yellowish square (heat press size) around the transfer when I lift up the press.

I try pressing the same shirt with same pressure but with different timing around those area which still look "white" and I get the same result. The area will look yellowish after I pressed, regardless the timing I set (15s,20s,25s).

Does that means I overheated the shirt?
Is it because I never use teflon sheet or is it the shirt quality problem? Or it is due to the pressure I set? or is it some other reasons?

Thanks in advance.

could be you need a teflon sheet - i always use one and never have a problem with scorching.

or......is it an off the shelf shirt? many of them have a sizing on the fabric that yellows under heat but washes out.

Is the yellow tint remaining on the shirt for awhile? Alot of times the tint will appear right after pressing from the moisture escaping the fabric, but should disappear as the fabric cools. It could be that you are pressing the fabric for too long though.

Thanks for the inputs.

My press is still brand new and I did check on the surface of the heat press before doing the transfer.

The shirt was bought from a shop nearby for testing purpose. Isn't a very good quality shirt.

I read about post which a red shirt having the scorching effect but wash out eventually. Will try to wash it as the shirt has been cooling for abt 12 hours now..

When doing transfers for lights there should not be an issue with using any cover as Teflon or parchment paper. The paper is face down so all you doing is pressing the back of paper. The use of these sheets is really to protect the platen not the shirt. Now pressing a white shirt designed for garment decorating should not show any scorching. There may be an issue with your temp. You say it is new so it may be hotter then you think. I have done thousands of shirts and have never scorched one yet. Now someone said red shirt have a scorching issue. it is not scorched it is a heat activated situation and over a period of time (as little as 30 minutes) it goes away. I have done hundreds of red shirts in fact the last video I did applying the forum logo was on a red shirt. You actually get the something on other shirts but red shirt just show more.Lou

what shirt are you using? 100% cotton would work best and also you should try cutting out the design as much as possible. i mean all around the edges,

same issue here.

with me, ive been using a teflon sheet and the yellowish surroundings appear on white tees that i press. i doubt it for the teflon but haven't found out which is the real cause. will see the shirt after washing if it will disappear

The "scorching" effect is gone even before wash.... I think Lou is right.

Thanks guys for the reply..
