I know many folks here charge by the square inch of material used. Myself, I look the design over, maybe even cut one to try it out, and then base my pricing from there.
Right now, I want to make in the neighborhood of $25-$35/hr for my labor. SO.....I break it down as such:
Simple text design on a tee (10mins from cut to press) - $6.00 in labor plus cost of tee (larger quantity orders, the price comes down a bit)
Simple logo design on tee (15mins from cut to press) - $8.00 in labor plus cost of tee (again, more shirts, less cost per piece)
And then so on. I don't charge a setup or artwork fee as yet because I haven't dealt with anything too complex. Basically, I'm looking to charge around $10 - $15 per tee depending on quantity. If they want over 100 pieces, I go with plastisol transfers as the time/effort ratio becomes prohibitive.
I'm hoping that gives you an idea as to how to go about pricing your work. I look at the per hour earnings, rather than the cost of the vinyl and tee. So far, I've made more than I thought possible with it. (and yet, I'm still not a millionaire).
