Default Not Impressed With Hat Done By Heat Press Can You Change My Mind

I was looking at some hats that were done with a heat press at the great garment seminar a few moths ago and i was not very impressed with what i saw the images almost looked like stickers on the hats i was woundering if anyone had some pictures of stuff you have done or anyone else has done so i can see what is possible with the hat press. i had a few customers ask me for hats and i had to turn them down . is there any way you can get close to the look of embrordery with a heat press? any info would help i hate turning people away. i also will be at the ISS in long beach so hopefully i will find some more info there but for now im counting on your info thanks.

1. Maybe try a different kind of vinyl? I've used the EconoPrint from Stahls, and I think it looks fine on caps.

2. Try flocked vinyl. That seems to be the one my customers like best.

3. Stahls.com has embroidered letters for heat press application.

For the most part, I'm not either usually. But there are some nice professionally done hats out there that have been heat pressed. I just generally prefer embroidered when it comes to hats.

No they are flock and glitter vinyl ,one with all three flock, glitter, rhinestones and the plain vinyl on the 3 hats with the onesie, I like the flock and glitter combo, the metallic and flock is cool too, you don't see these kind of hats on the market, you can even build up the flock for 3-d effect or use multi colors for gradient effect, any way you shake it girls love the bling and will pay dearly for it. I am going to be doing videos soon on multi layer gradient etc.

I like the idea of using rhinestones and flock. Part of my negative view up until now is because I have mostly been subjected to plain plastic looking block letters and cheap prints like that. If you can bang out a nice looking, quality product, then more power to you.

And I'm all for anything that will drive the girls wild.

I am a strong advocate for sublimation also look at these hats http://www.shopedhardy.com these are trucker hats that look to me as being sublimated and I am sure they are,, these trucker hats should give you an example of what can be done, both my examples and ed hardy's hats are something that can't even be done with embroidery.

That's really ironic, I was actually just on Ed Hardy's site earlier looking at those very hats. You must be psychic!

What about puff base? I haven't tried it but I was told it raises during curing... Is this true? If so, that would be close to an embroidered patch on the hats...

It does, but I have no clue as to how it would hold up on a hat. Puff can be very troublesome to apply.

Since we are asking for honest opinions here...

For me...the only think I would use a hat press for would be to add rhinestones to a hat. I still prefer screenprinted and embroidered hats.

Just my 2cents
