Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Ive got my heat press is a PF-HTP2938 COMBINATION HEAT TRANSFER PRESS from joys sewing. (anybody got any comments or opinions on this one?)
We tried it out tonight using epson d88+ (i think this is the UK alternative for the C88+) durabright ink and epson cool peel transfer paper.
The t-shirt was 100% cotton
We pressed it for 30secs @ 180degr
The light blue one we did was fine but we did i white one same time and everything the design went yellowish as did the tshirt with a square where the base had been?
Ive read some of the other posts and i see this has happend to other people, what can i do to minimise or stop this?
We are setting up and site selling funky tshirts and we are'nt using alot of white tees but they ones we are i want to be right.
Also im having difficulty finding somewhere cheap and reliable to get t-shirts from bearing in mind im in the UK?
We are looking for 100% cotton (i think this is best but feel free to correct me) no more than £1.50-£2.50 each only ordering 5 or 10 at at time.
Also how do you line the t-shirt up so that its straight on the board and the design goes on straight?
A lot of people have been having problems with the DURABrite inks lately. It's like this problem suddenly popped up recently.
To me it sounds like you're scorching your shirt if it's turning yellow where it was pressed. The thing is that 180C is a pretty common setting for transfers and vinyl, and we use it all the time and haven't scorched a shirt yet...
It might be the brand of shirt you're using. You say they're 100% cotton, but what brand?
I don't know...it might be your press, too. Have you taken temperature readings on your press? Perhaps it's getting a lot hotter than it's saying it is.
As for your paper, I can't speak for Epson heat transfer paper's quality, but you'll get a much better VALUE from professional papers like Jet-PRO SofStretch and IronAll and papers like them from a reputable distributor. I wish I could help you with that, but I'm in the US so I don't know of any distributors in the UK for paper or t-shirts.
Try xpres.co.uk for t-shirts and transfer papers, i use both and never had a problem, excellent quality. I think the t-shirts start at £1.10 each and can be ordered in singles. Limited colours though.

trying to help, sometimes i don't!
The yellowing of your design is from the DURABrite Inks. I was one of the recent members having a problem with it, so I know from personal experience. A way to work around it is to go to the Advanced Print Settings, and turn the yellow to -15, and bump up the cyan and magenta to +5 each. I did this for photos, and it seemed to work OK. However, when I tried it with gray text, it made it appear purpleish BEFORE pressing, so I threw it out. When I printed gray WITHOUT any adjustments, it turned olive green after pressing. I posted some photos in the "Aren't all pigment inks equal?" thread so you can see what happened with the gray "swish" behind my husband's car in the design...
As for me, I've given up on the Durabrite ink. I've gone to refillable carts and 3rd party heat transfer ink from inksupply.com. I'm hoping that these inks will work better, and I won't have to make any adjustments to compensate for the effect the heat press will have on the ink.
There have been many instances of this happening to various members on this board, so just run a search on "color shifting", and you'll see for yourself that you're not alone! Good luck!

Reason: correct a boo-boo
So far so good!!
Delivery and everything was great really quick!!
The instructinos werent great but they did the job!!
Having a major propblem with transfer paper right now tho!!
We want to print tshirts with quotes so just writting but printing the transfer out and cutting round it is a killer any suggestions?
hey, I think I'm to go for one then-was quite hesitant because i read some blogs and people were advising not to use that company etc.
Its difficult not to the price is too good
to be honest not too sure with the text I'm also wanting to do the same thing but for text i think most people use vinyl transfer. I'd eventually like to get a vinyl cutter soon but not until I've made some cash back.
until then i will look for a local t-shirt printer etc and pay them to cut it for me to press-i read that elsewhere in the forum and seems to be working for others.
