What makes the C88 more special than other printers is that it uses pigmented ink as opposed to dye-based ink. That's only really important for printing stickers or heat-press transfers.
So what is special about the C88?? will not any printer work for screen printing?
This is in the heat press forum. The major distinguishing characteristic of the C88 is that it uses pigment (rather than dye) based inks. Pigment inks produce more durable transfers.
There are bulk continuous ink systems available for the C88, which makes the cost per print much lower. These aren't avaible for all printers. (Though they might not be available for Epson printers much longer.)
Also, many people are interested in picking one up for the "homemade DTG" project that has been a major topic of discussion for a couple of months here.
That, and it's just a solid little inexpensive printer. The downside is that the printer is being discontinued for an upgraded model.
I just bought a c120 - the replacement for the c88 - off an Ebay site for $57 w/ shipping included. That's new, not a refurbished. It has pigmented inks and 5 cartridges - 2 black, 3 colored (2 are used in this printer). If you aren't doing dye sub, and plan to use standard pigmented inks, the c120 might be a better buy than the refurbed c88 or c88+.

screen printing is not the same as printing your transferss. 2 different processes.

I bought it from a private party, who only had 1 to sell. But there are others listed in Ebay for about $60-70. One seller had 4 available. These are all new, not refubed.
I've been using a Canon printer for transfers for about a year and was wanting to switch.
Where's the best deal on the continuous ink system and if the ink system is discontinued, will the ink still be available?
And where is the best place to get the ink?
And one more question is there a better transfer paper for pigment ink?
I've been using Coastal's Opaque Dark paper but have been having trouble with some of it's opaqueness (sp) on some shirts. Haven't figured out why yet, I thought what I had was old, but I got new, and had the same problem with some of the new stuff too.
