Default Heat Press Import Duty/Tax UK

Hi,
I am seriously considering buying a 15x15 Mighty Heat Press from Coastal Business and shipping it to the UK where I live.

I have got a quote which I think is very competitive and includes shipping and a UK plug.

Has anyone imported a heat press from outside of the USA before as I am aware that I may have to pay for customs duty or some sort of import tax? How much would i be looking at for this? It would sway my decision on whether to go ahead.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

You will be charged import tax. You need to phone Customs to get a rating code to know how much it will be. The rating system is crazy... I import patches from Taiwan and pay different rates depending what fabric they are sewn onto.

VAT is payable at the standard rate.

Another charge that could arise is the shipping from the port to your house or place of work. You need to check that one out with the vendor.

Have you thought what you will do if it breaks? Are you capable of fixing it and are spares available.

Thanks for the reply, I wasn't too sure of the tax and it is looking as if it may be more sensible to buy straight from the UK even though it will probably cost more.

Thanks for the reply!

If it is anything like where I,m from in the EU, you would probably have to pay 5% duty on the landed goods. ie.cost of the press plus the cost of the freight.

Whether you buy it from the USA or from the UK the vat would still be the same.
most of the US presses are sold in the UK, but quite pricey approx double the price. Try and find out what the freight would cost ?

I have a quote already for the shipping but I think VAT plus customs tax on top may make it not as appealing.

Hi, I was just reading your questions re importing to UK. I am in a similar situation and wondered how you resolved it - did you go ahead and import from US or use a UK distributor? If UK, can you recommend one? Thanks in advance, Kate

We ship many machines to the UK. There probably is an import tax but it can't be too expensive. We have had no negative feedback.
