Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Hi I have got my first complaint about smoke smell I dont wash my shirts when I am done to many people use to many different soaps I know when I press I do smell and see smoke some times even though the shirts are not burn what do I do I can wash then package them and take A chance that no one will be allergic to the soap or lose more business I have tryed to tell them that transfer or heated to 375-400 F but they say when you go to stores you dont have smells like that
Do you smoke or have a smoker in the place of biz. I never had that said to me. Just wondering if it could be some other type of smoke smell. The smoke or steam from the press should not smell like smoke. It should smell like a hot t-shirt or hot ink. So, yes it should smell the same as a shirt from another store. Press a tee, let it cool and smell for yourself to see if you smell smoke.

Nope no smoking here I thought that they where looking to get free Tees I just did one as sample for them when I told them that it was going to be heat transfer they look at me kindy funny they wanted me to do 25 tees so I told them transfer where the way I was doing it I just did not know if there where any smell becouse of the temp
You should not have any smell for the heat press, definately not like smoke. Unless someone is smoking in the area where you are working I would say they should not have any kind of smoke smell to the garments. sometimes the transfers have kind of a funny smell to them but not like smoke.

Just tell them that you're working so quickly that smoke was coming outta your hands.
Never had any issues with a smoke smell on the shirts (and I'm a tobacco smoker - I wash my hands after every cancer stick though). Some people are just super picky and, if you don't or didn't get that order, it may be a good thing in the long run.
Tell them to go get their custom shirts made at Target and see how that turns out. I wouldn't even consider washing a shirt before selling it, but I would consider steaming a shirt to get the wrinkles out.

I have one customer who is very sensative to the smell of the ink from the digital transfers. Knowing this, he just washes his own shirt himself before he wears. It doesn't seem to be an issue with silk screened shirts.
Is it every customer or just one who says they can smell smoke?
I would not wash shirts before delivering to my customer. I'm not even sure you can sell them as new once you've washed them, so be careful about that.
Hi to all and thanks for the feed back will I turned them down on the job they came back and wanted me to wash them when done but I feel the same way about washing them there not new and I told them that they where not happy with me after I said that but I have never washed any shirts after printing them and I have never had any complaints like that I have done over 300 transfers
I recently wore one of my shirts and played basketball in it. Once it got sweat on it I noticed that the ink started to run a bit (I used TransferJet paper) and I had to wash in cold water to restore the color. To avoid this I was actually thinking that it would be a good idea to wash before you sell. It would be more work but it would definitely avoid any future complaints.
By the way, I wore this shirt 24 hours after I did the transfer process. Has anyone had a complaint as far as ink running when shirt comes in contact with moisture?

if you get jet soft soft strech you wont have that problem there is lot of people that use this and I use it and have no problems just read on the forum and you will see hope this helps

you can end up with the problem is you are using dye inks instead of pigment ink. You should check which type you are using as dye ink will bleed as it doesnt set the way pigment inks do.

I really appreciate the feedback. Finally received my Jet Pro Softstretch paper for darks and am anxious to get started with it. From heaving reading on this forum it would seem that heat transfer paper has come a long way in a span of 2 years. Not having to wash the tees before selling will definitely save time.
