Bear in mind that the 'brand' is not really informative as the manufacturers will make presses for several companies and in addition a particular brand may change manufacturer but still keep the brand name...so it is hard to tell.

I am sure there are users that have had good luck.. My point is after sale service..where/who do you go to for support...is it reliable and how long is the warranty on the heating element

David,

If you have a name brand and the heating element goes bad, it may be covered. Most of the good brands have lifetime warranty on heating element inside the platen. My experience is that the heating element is the item most likely to need repair. Not a bad idea to have a backup, however. I don't know enough about the import presses, but have heard stories about uneven heat, cold spots. etc. If you're in a business that demands excellent quality, a cold spot could be a kiss of death, rendering the work essentially useless. Hope that import owners will chime in on this one, especially if they've had the units for 2 or more years and use it continually.

David,

Sorry to hear that. I've heard different responses about used equipment, some saying it would be covered, others saying no. Can I ask what brand you purchased used?

David,

I was REALLY tempted to try out a Chinese brand, but I read way too many stories here that changed my mind.
The MAIN reason was that if I had to ship it back, how much would that run me, and also how long would it take...?
I thought, "Well, I could try one out and see what I think, and it'll probably last a while... hopefully"...
Instead, I just bought a Stahls brand new, but it was 4 years old, I got a good price, and I got it on e-Bay.
There's a lot of good deals there if you do e-Bay, and if not, I do understand.

I'd definitely look at used ones on e-Bay, that way you can 'almost' get it at what the Chinese ones would cost, and the heating element is still under warranty, that is, if you buy a brand that has a lifetime warranty.
(I don't know though if the warranty is transferable though)

Randy

I know, I was just mentioning it 'in case' someone was wondering about that kind'a stuff.
I know I didn't know 'til you told me that the warranties weren't transferable.
I know that you want BUYERS that bought to mention how the feel, but probably, they aren't the majority, and maybe they're feeling like it wouldn't be a good thing to say. heh

I really don't know that it's a prejudice against Chinese presses, it's probably more like FEAR! heh
I know that most people say that others shouldn't buy them, but most probably have never bought one, but, there's good reason I guess, in most cases anyway.

Good luck in your quest.

Randy

I hope that some one will come A long and talk About it. I know that there will be some who will have some thing Bad to say even if they dont own one. But I hope that this can open doors and let us know more about the presses and I thought that is what this site is About to ask and get feed back ( Good or Bad) I just thought that it is time to find out from people that own them Thanks
