OK, please respond, because I'm completely confused. Have a C88+ Epson printer and want to buy refillable cartridges. Do I need chipped or non-chipped carts? Sponged or spongeless? I'm so clueless about how this printer works!
Any recommendation on where to buy? Do I buy them pre-filled? Is the inital setup difficult?
Thinking of using inksupply ink -- heard they have excellent photo capabilities, which is what I do with most of my designs. Any input here?
Melissa, I use non chiped spongeless carts, if you buy the kind with chips you have to have a re-setter to re-set the chip,I got mine from inksupply also, its not hard to install just like your standard carts,, refill is easy syringes come with the carts to re-fill them, buy them empty. hope this helps

I bought a chip resetter for 7.95 at fry's My cartridges came from Coastal but I am not sure if they sell them any more.

Thanks for the reply, and it definitely is helpful. I need all the help I can get on this! I've seen chip resetters, but have no idea what they're for or how to use them. Did you also purchase the ink through inksupply? From what I've read the inks are good, but don't have any personal feedback on that. I think I'd rather buy both (cart and ink) through the same vendor too.

From what I remember, they do... altogether the purchase for the carts and the ink would be around $330. I love working with Coastal, but the price is just too steep for me at this point. I know most of the time you get what you pay for, but at the prices other sites are quoting, even if they fail, they can be replaced several times for one of Coastal's prices.
With Coastal's inks, is there any adjustment needed? Any color shifting?
Hi Melissa, Lets go back to the cart question, I forgot to tell you that the chips function in the cart is to tell you when the ink is low or out that is why you have to reset the chip when you refill it tells the printer the statis of the cart, with no chips it just reads always full, in that case you have to watch the carts and make sure you don't run out of ink.. I buy my inks from Sublimation and Heat Transfer Solutions - Picture Perfect Products Australia the are in Australia but ship to the USA free and I usally get my ink in 2 to 3 days, they are good people and are very personable. Don't let the prices scare you because they are in AU. dollars ,they will convert to US dollars just send them a e mail and they will quote you in US dollars,, they have super good ink. This is just a few suggestions for you. I hope you do well in 2008,, Happy New Year!
Charles, does this ruling take into consideration on discontinued models?
Does this ruling cover cis systems?? I have heard of this ruling but didn't follow it to closely.
AFAIK...it refers to ALL 3rd party carts being imported into US. I don't think this applies (yet) to other countries. It seems...repeat seems...meaning I am not sure...that CIS is not covered...just the individual carts and I don't think there is a difference in treatment on older or discontinued models
I would follow the Epson court ruling closely on this. It appears that Epson has stopped 3rd party carts for desktop Epson.. see Epson wins lawsuit
this ruling does not apply to wide format printers...that means the 4000 series and up..Epson does not consider the 1280/1400/1800 to be wide format.
Charles, does this mean that if I do find a refillable cart for the C88+ that I should not buy it because of the ruling? Will there be some type of "fall out" i.e. being sued by Epson if they find out? What does this actually mean for a small consumer like myself?
I was wondering why I was not seeing many models for the C88+ -- guess I know why now...
There you go. Chips reset themselves when you power on the printer.
Hey, thanks!! That was exactly the set up that I was thinking of buying. If I'm not wrong, the inks are included too, but are they for HEAT TRANSFER? I'm a bit leary of the ink since I've read a few posts about color shifting with these inks. Hey, if I can get my hands on the refillable cartridges, I'll just keep the ink on the side, and use inksupply inks instead, right?
Thanks for letting me know these carts are good -- I'm ordering them tonight!!
as long as you can find the refillable carts...you will be fine. as I understand but they are getting in short supply and some sources are out and I think the underlining target is not just the inks..but the carts themselves as the ink to a printer company is a money machine. As you can see from the Epson note they are going for a $13.50 surcharge on 3rd party carts coming in for the next month...after that no more...who is going to inspect and see...and collect...who knows. I think they sued about 20 or so manufacturers and importers...
So yes Melissa...I think you are right..the court case is not about inks..just the method of delivery...ie the carts and chips...The chipsetter may be next on their list.
Put in my order with inkjetcarts -- only the first time I ordered the entire kit (carts, ink and syringes) by mistake. I've heard there can be color shifting with the ink, and since I already had that problem with the Durabrite ink and thus the switch to 3rd party inks, I didn't want to take that chance. So I cancelled the first order, and then put in another order. This time, I bought 2 sets of cartridges since they may be impossible to get soon, and 4 syringes.
Next, I hope to buy my heat transfer ink through inksupply.com since I've heard good things about their ink quality, especially with photos. Anyone have experience with their inks?
