Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I am considering buying an Epson R1800 printer to make heat transfers and would like to get some responses from current users of this printer. I plan to use the Epson UltraChrome ink (cartridges), is this a good ink for transfers?
My wife just handed me some literature from Sawgrass Technologies concerning the Epson R1800. They are introducing the "Sublijet/ChromaBlast System". It can be used for both sublimation printing and cotton decorating from one machine. I'm looking into this technology and thought you might find it interesting.
Hi I Just Recieved The Epson 1800 The Other Day It Works Great!!!!
And It Is Pigment Ink! I Bought Mine At Epson.Com Refubished For $314.00 Free Shipping. Do Some Shopping Around It Pays Off. Mike
I'm looking to move from outsourcing custom plastisol transfers to printing my own transfers in-house. If anybody has used both business models, I'd love to hear your experiences.
Specifically..
Mike, I'm interested in learning more about the quality of your transfers. What is the hand like compared to a plastisol transfer? Have you given it a wash/fade test? What paper did you use?
Harold, what have you learned about the chromablast system? I don't really understand the difference between the Epson1800 pigment ink and the proprietary Chromablast ink.. any insight?
Here's what coastal has to say on their website.. ChromaBlast Imaging System, Chromablast FAQ - Coastal Business Supplies
Sorry for so many questions.. feel free to ignore some/all

Knox...chromablast is the sawgrass ink system that is only for light colored 100% cotton or blends. Personally I do not like it..paper is about 75-80 cents a sheet. The Epson pigment ink is used for other transfer paper..either for white or dark garments. The hand fo the pigment transfer is greater than the chromablast print. By the way...a bulk system for the c88+ was about $900 for the hardware and inks.
Plastisol transfers are in fact screen printing and so the hand is the same as for screen printing
Thanks Harold, I'm actually pretty much up to speed now. I'll be using laser color printer + imageclip for light colored garments and plastisol transfers for dark garments.
