Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
I'm planning on getting some of my designs done on plastisol transfers and pressing them on Alternative Apparel shirts that are 50% poly, 38% ringspun cotton, and 12% rayon (item #AA1973 Eco-shirt). As anyone done this? Any forseeable problems? I'm new to the heat transfer thing. I've only had my shirts silk screened and I'm looking for a way to do low quantities.
Good idea, John. Thanks! I'll be using a company called Dowling Graphics. I've never used them before, but they are local and looks like they have been doing business for quite awhile. Now I just need a heat press!! I'll check out other posts for more info on that subject.
Dowling is a good company, we get alot of designs from them, both stock and custom. Their true power is in their ability to create amazingly vibrant 4 color process transfers, though the custom version is pretty expensive for just about any startup. Let me know what you think after you try them, and in the meantime, check out these two companies as well. They are both excellent plastisol makers:
Thanks for the reccommendations. I'll let you know how I like Dowling. I checked out the other sites and they are very detailed as far as helping the customer out.
I just met with a sales rep (Diane) over at Dowling Graphics. We tested the eco shirts with some sample transfers and they turned out great. No burns or bubbling. We had the press set at 375 degrees and pressed it for 8 seconds. (not sure what the pressure was) Anyway, I'm washing it now to see if it holds up. I'll post again when it's done.
The shirt came out fine from the wash and fine from the dyer! I had it on low to dry and turned the shirt inside out. I think I'm in business! Just need to win the bid for the HIX 600D now!
