Default What Should I Charge?

I was just wondering what i should charge? A buddy of mine needs new shirts for the baskeball team he coaches (7th and 8th graders) They need some tee shirts with the name of the school on the front and a number on the back. He asked me previously and told him no because i origionally thought they were screen printed and did not want to burn 20 screens...haha. So, from doing some research i find out they are heat transfers i can cut out from my vinyl cutter. (i bought and played with a roll of this before to make my own shirts but put them on with an iron and thoguht they were cheap.) Now i know they will be pretty durable if applied with a heat press, What should i charge for 20 shirts? I figured my cost would be about $60 for the heat transfer material, and about $3 a shirt/shipped, so a total cost of $120 in materials...Thanks, Nick

Shipping seems high. Why do you think it will cost that much? For $60, why don't you just personally deliver them?

Even if you have to ship UPS, a local (or cross the country for that matter) delivery for 20 shirts shouldn't cost you more than $20.

As a rule of thumb, I double my cost to come up with my selling price.

I meant the shirts would be like $3 shipped to me. It's for my buddies school so i will just hand them to him...I think the shirts run like $2.55, something like that, plus shipping from them to me comes out to around $3 per shirt. Plus, I have to pay for the heat transfer material, so my cost is going to run about $6 per shirt. Do you think i could really get $12 a shirt? If so im more than happy with that profit for that particular job.

Thanks, Nick

Gotcha, I read that wrong.

$10-$12 is certainly in the range of what these shirts go for-without names. If you want to add extra value why don't you include the kids' last name on the back along with the number.

I was def going to see if this is something i can add on. That would be nice to get closer to $15 a shirt. I know this seems like a small order but im just out of my house with very little overhead right now.

I think they are the hanes 5170? I usually get them from T-shirtwholesaler.com. I was looking online for the heat transfer material and it was $59.99 for a roll 19"x 5 yards.

I get the Hanes 5170 for $1.65 a piece if I order 20. Check out some different wholesalers. I think you're paying too much for your shirts. Also you're paying way too much for your vinyl. Check this site, it's great shirt vinyl:

Check out this site for decent pricing on tee's. Depending on the color you need it could save a buck or two.

Plus I don't think you will need the entire roll of vinyl for the order, though I am still figuring out the whole process of vinyl cutting.

Does Evryone Think That $15 Is A Good Price For A Shirt With The Name Of Team On Front And Last Name And Number On Back Is An Average Price. Im Guessing Its A One Color. And At What Number Would You Drop Your Price.

We are home based and just starting out. We get white shirts for around 1.10 plus shipping and the front and back vinyl for this type of shirt would be probably less than 1.50 of material. So we would have 3 bucks total in this. I would sell the shirts in my area to a school for around 8-9 bucks. Again I am small with no overhead. So making 100 bucks out of the deal for 1 hr of work isn't bad.

Also I would add in the fact that you are getting your foot in the door of the school which could lead to larger orders from other clubs, sports and activities in the school. It's easy to sell 200 shirts to a school and make 2 bucks a shirt and all you have to do is order the shirts, call the printer, and deliver.
