Default Transfer designs

I have purchased some transfer paper and put a couple of designs on a T shirt, a big start. I have a couple of questions:

1) I didn't have a border design, the edge of the paper was 'blank'. So, this left a blank area which was too shiny and obvious to us. I am assuming that this would be a big turnoff to a customer.

2) I realize this question depends greatly upon the design. But, it seems to me that the customer would think a 'box' around the edge of the design would look better than a blank area. Is this true? If so, do you normally trim the edges of the transfer paper to eliminate the area which cannot be printed? The other options would be to add a lighter background color instead of leaving it 'blank'

In general do the transfer designs fill the entire sheet without 'blank' area? Thanks

You need to trim your design to get rid of the blank areas. I typically use a shape like oval. square, etc...just makes it easier. I have done some that I did alot of hand cutting detail and it killed my hands lol
