Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
We printed with an Epson c88+, onto ironall dark, pressed for 16 secs with a Mighty Lite. Image looked good. Washed, looked good, put it in dryer, it came out looking like the top of a cake - Puffy and Creased (not cracked/no color loss).
The image area pulls the fabric around the image in toward the image, very weird. It looks terrible. I will iron it to see if it goes flat again, but is this normal? Is there something we can do different to have the image come out flat after the dryer? The instructions say no special laundering, but should it be hung dry?
Thank you so much. We're trying to deliver Holiday orders for little pink shirts and want to send the kids the best we can provide, which we know should be ironall dark, but they will be disappointed if after one wash their little shirts look like this. Any help/advice we are grateful for!!!!!
Thank you for writing, Charles. My husband did the wash test, so I am not sure on the specifics other than the heat setting was at medium high when I removed the shirt. The directions say no special laundering is needed, is that not really true than I guess?
The only reason I mentioned the heat aspect is that cotton shirts that are not preshrunk will often shrink in the dryer and when the shirt shrinks...and the transfer can't..then you will get the puckering effect..
A lot will depend on the type paper/printer/ink/material/press time/temp.. Maybe you will get a larger response if you provide that info
You're right, it is a 100% cotton shirt, and puckering is exactly what it looks like.
And I'll give the specifics, good idea:
Printed onto ironall dark, using an Epson C88+ with pigment ink, pressed it with the Mighty Lite at 350 degrees for 16 secs (I watch Lou's videos too!)
I always use 50/50 blend with transfers to avoid the shrinking of cotton t's. Your transfer is what it is and can't/won't shrink with cotton. At least with what i've encountered.

OK the real answer.. some of you guessed the answer. Iron all is vinyl and the shirt will shrink a bit and that will cause the problem you have experenced as vinyl does not shrink with the shirt.. but when you press the shirt then you should stretch it right after you press it. also press it after you wash it.The reason that you don't get the plumpy look with 50/50 is it does not shrink as much as cotton.. Send all checks to.. nope can't do that.. Oh, wash in cold water.. bet your husband used hot.. It causes it to shrink more..

HAHAHAAHAHAHAHA ! Better to be screwed up than not done at all!!
And you found me, Lou! I am redoing the shirt after your suggestions earlier, stretching and repressing, and YES, I did the wash test myself this time in cold water (he was busy washing dishes this time! ) and I'm too afraid to put this 100% cotton shirt in the dryer.
I'm searching the forum for a good supplier of youth shirts that are 50/50 to try to aliviate the puckering. After the wash, I did have to smooth the image down a bit, but it wasn't bad at all, not like the other one from the dryer.
I'm now thinking no on the Ironall for lights, go with the new paper from Coastal, and use ironall dark for 50/50 shirts. Does that sound about right to keep things moving along smoothly? Anyone?
Thank you all, you are a very nice bunch. I am learning by stumbling and appreciate the hand up.
