Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
Hi I'm planning on purchasing some plastisol transfers, what i have read thus far they are more durable and reliable than inkjet?
I just wanted to know whether companies, such as first edition could print photo quality images onto plastisol transfers- i am aware that inkjet would be more effective for photos but i just want to know how limited plastisol transfers are in this regard.
Is the price for more colours (not sure if thats how to word it) on the plastisol, a great deal more expensive??
Also, does anyone know of any Australian based plastisol transfer suppliers or is shipping generally inexpensive??
Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can offer

Yes...typically the price goes up with more colors and also full color printing (photorealistic images) require higher minimums and are more expensive.
One alternative is F&M Expressions Freedom Process. They are a sponsor of this site and can be found in the sponsor list to the left of this page. They charge the same price for 3+ colors and have very nice colors. The downside is that they will feel thick and plasticy to the touch.
Good luck!
John

Thanks for your help John i checked out F&M and they arent too expensive, will definately order some samples. Im still not quite sure what 4 colours actually means- that only 4 coloured designs can be printed? Or are the 4 colours mixed to form other colours.
Does anyone know what format is standard for sending designs to the plastisol transfer manufacturer's??
4 Color Process means that CYMK colors are used to make all colors. Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Black. It is the same process used in your standard color printer.
Typically, they accept any vector format such as EPS, Illustrator (AI), CorelDraw (CDR) or PSD for Photoshop files. I think there are others as well. If you check the bottom of F&M's price sheet, you will see their artwork format guidelines listed.
