Urgent help needed! Dark transfer comes out like Andy Warhol pics
I have an urgent customer order for a dark T-Shirt transfer. I must say so far I ave only ever worked with light transfer and sublimation, no problem. But when I print out the image which is rather light, a photo - then it looks okay on normal or light wear paper, but looks a bit like a comic image or Andy Warhol picture on the dark transfer paper. The paper is from a very reputable source.
Can anyone help me, how can I fix this, is this a common problem.
Re: Urgent help needed! Dark transfer comes out like Andy Warhol pics
What printer and paper are you using? What software? I think I understand what your problem is, but would like more info. It may help me with my suggestions.
Re: Urgent help needed! Dark transfer comes out like Andy Warhol pics
I am using a HP Photosmart C5280 and Picture Perfect Transfer paper. They relable their paper, so I don't know what it is originally but they are very reputable and it is supposed to be the best paper on the market. The heat press is a Hix Hobby Lite, but the problems occur before I use the heat press. I use Photoshop Elements.
I have also tried using my Epson 86 with sublimation ink. The picture itself comes out okay by the ink smears all over the paper, so I guess I can't use the sublimation ink.
So I assume it is a problem of the paper surface and the HP printer colour.

1. is the paper for lights? 2. Are you using it on darks?
3. If the paper is not sublimation paper why are you using sublimation inks.4. Hp printer are dye inks not pigment inks.

Re: Urgent help needed! Dark transfer comes out like Andy Warhol pics
The paper is dark wear paper!
I was only using the sublimation printer to see if it could handle the paper as it says on the dark transfer paper you can use either normal or sublimation ink.
I have now tried another printer Canon S200SPx and the rfesult s even worse than the HP, once again both HP and Canon are normal inks.
I am not getting anywhere this way. The dark wear paper does not seem compatible with any of my printers.
What is the diference between dye ink and pigment ink and can that make a differnce on the darkwar paper?
Re: Urgent help needed! Dark transfer comes out like Andy Warhol pics
I'm not familiar with the paper you're using and I'm an Epson guy, but I've had images look cartoony or oversaturated when I was using the wrong setting. Try printing with and without different color profiles. Also, try changing your printer's settings. A text setting may work better than a photo setting for transfer paper.
Re: Urgent help needed! Dark transfer comes out like Andy Warhol pics
If you are getting a lot of ink that is not drying it sounds like you are using the wrong side of the paper. Just to be clear, are you using 2 piece opaque paper for your transfers. describe you paper. I never heard of it also. And who are you getting it from. Dye inks are basically a liquid with dye colors. Pigment are plastic particals in a gel and the plastic melts on to the paper when pressed.

Andrea
Andrea, I have never seen any of the OEM dye based inks last. They will bleed and fade with the wash. Before you go any farther, wash the shirts and see if the inks bleed and/or fade. With any new paper and inks testing, wash the first one to see what happens before going any farther.
The problems your having is the reason I don't do darks. Thre is a paper out called Wow 7.1 that is supposed to be great but works with a laser printer and goes through about 6 steps to get the image pressed to a dark shirt. Too labor intensive for me but I don't get that many calls for darks. Have a BLESSED day.
God Bless You
Don

Hi all,
Thanks so much for your help.
The riddle is solved! I just talked to my supplier this morning who said they had the same problem with someone else. They have obviously been supplied with faulty coated paper. So they are sending me a new batch overnight. Hope this one works. Well the whole thing has truly ruined my Sunday! My poor hubby got the worst of it, got to make it up to him
And I agree, I will not actively advertise darkwear, but some customers just insist on it, what can you do.
