Discuss the various aspects of heat press technology. Transfer paper, inks, plastisol transfers, vinyl cutters, printers, commercial usage, durability, suppliers, etc.
This question has probably been asked but I cannot seem to find the answer.
I have a dtg printer and am not happy with the current white ink so I was looking into transfers for DARK SHIRTS ONLY. Originally I hated transfers because of the big thick square 1980's look and feel. But WOW, transfers have come along way since then.
I just have a cheap HP all in one printer so I plan on using my Flexi to print on the transfers for right now. I still wont be able to print white ink, but it can open up a few more doors.
Im looking for a transfer that is of quality and that I dont need to cut out. Any suggestions on where to look?
You are correct. I just stay away from white in the colors as the shirt color comes through when heat pressing. Maybe one day someone will come up with the "perfect" transfer paper but at least now they're offering opaques that aren't so heavy. I just ordered some from newmilfordphoto.com that has stretch and is suppose to have a softer hand according to lou's video. I'm anxious to give it a try.
You did not say what your volume was. If it is any thing like over 15 then I would have plastisol transfers made for me. That takes care your problem.

Yes, over 15 for most of my customers but sometimes just a one off for a sample. A lot of the business owners (my customers) in my area have only heard of screen printing and still think transfers are the 80's look/feel I posted previously.
This kept them from ever getting shirts to promote thier business.

Well you really can't offer one of a plastisol. That would be expensive. What you need to do is have samples of the plastisol transfer and show them to your customers. Call Ace transfer or email them Ace Transfer Company or First Edition Untitled Document they both will send out samples.

Hey Funk..
I was just curioius what DTG you have? There is a new Bright White out for the T Jets that is much better than the "old" white ink. I noticed a BIG difference right away with brightness and coverage.
Didn't know if your issue was coverage or just the overall hassle of the process....

I have a flexi L. I knew when I bought it that people were having probs with the white ink (clogs and washability), so Ive been printing on lights and canvas, not to mention everything in my house. Its just getting to the point where I NEED to do darks.
Since I wasnt printing everyday, I was reluctant to put the white ink into my machine. Not to mention, being a newer business I didnt want to get a bad rap for myself. But now if I took all those orders I rejected I could print white everyday. I think there is some new white coming out for us as well. I just need something in the meantime.
