| where can i buy heat resistant glue I bought four mug wraps which I thought were made by Cactus but were not. Even before I've used them, the metal bar kept falling and the red thermal rubber pad came off. I need a heat resistant adhesive to fix the problem.
Also, the thermal pad on the bottom platen of my heat press is not glued all the way around. The center is okay but you can lift the edges. I tried Home Depot. I didn't see any. Where can I find one and what brand? It's easier to ask the sales person if I knew the brand.
Thanks.

| Re: where can i buy heat resistant glue You should call a heat press manufacturer - try Hotronix at 800-727-8520. Talk with tech support and ask them if you can purchase the glue that they use to glue their pads down. | |

| Re: where can i buy heat resistant glue Search is over (hopefully). You're right, but, but... I found out that so many glues or adhesives are made of or contain silicone. I think it's even used to hold wigs or toupes. A friend of mine said he used silicone adhesive to prevent his aquarium from leaking.
I researched wikipedia and google. Came across some terms like thermal grease, thermal compound, heat paste, thermal paste. But they're used inside computers. Among the brands that I found were DAP by Dow Corning, RTV 382, GE Silicone II, Permatex Clear RTV. The price is around $4.95, tube size. But some are $41, $70+ and $99 (maybe bucket size). I found out that RTV means room temperature vulcanization (whatever that means). I'm not an expert, I noticed heat resistant glues are the ones that say RTV. Permatex is sold at Ace Hardware and maybe in Lowe's and Home Depot. I'm not endorsing anyone. The one I bought is Permatex Gasket Maker, can resist up to 700 deg F. It's used in car engines. It should work in my mug wrap. Auto parts shops may have them too. I haven't tried them yet because of busy season.
The moral of my story is, it's been said in this forum a lot of times, do not buy equipments just because they're cheap. They will cost you more money in the long run.
It looks like the manufacturer used glue stick. It's hard to remove. I hand ironed it to no avail. Ironically, I can't remove it. So the solution, don't bother removing old glue. Buy a new thermal pad. You see, it costs me more. Not only that, I had to buy a metric nut driver. The bolt they used is metric.

| Re: where can i buy heat resistant glue I forgot to mention two things.
First, the mug wrap in the picture is not Cactus. It's not US made.
Second, even though the thermal pad is not glued to the wrap, I can still use it. It still works. Only it gives me a hard time, but it works.
The other picture in my previous post shows the lower platen of my press with the pad not glued all the way around.
