Default Ironall where to start...bought some but no instructions!

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, I've searched but cannot find the info I need.

I'm a newbie, I'm experimenting with printing onto onesies and before I invest in a heat press I just want to print onto a few using an iron with Ironall paper to test out the designs (in the name of market research).

I'm in the UK and the only place I could find some Ironall paper was on ebay, I've bought 10 sheets which I've just received but there are no instructions included. I think I have the new type of Ironall paper - it's pale blue on one side and white (slightly textured) on the other.

Where do I start? I don't even know what side I'm meant to print on and how much ink to use (using an inkjet printer). How hot will I need the iron to be and how long do I press onto the onesie? Do I need to have the onesie ironed before applying the paper and, if so, does it need to be warm or cool when I apply the design? Do I peel the paper off as soon as I take the iron off or do I need to wait for it to cool?

Apologies again for all the basic questions, but I literally have some ironall paper, an iron and a blank onesie and I'm not sure where to begin!!!

Thanks in advance

And this is why you have guys like me here... Ok do not print on blue side!!!!! White side only.
printing with an iron will work but not best way to use this paper. Print mirror image only. Place image down on substrate (apparel) because you are using an iron do not use any steam!!! pre press your garment for about 10 second. This removes moisture. The lay your transfer down and press. An iron will not cover all areas ayt one time so keep you iron in one area about 20 senconds then move to an are that you have not done yet. Then when you have pressed all area iron the whole surface to get the whole transfer hot. Then peel slowly. Keep as much pressure on the iron as you can. Nomal pressing with a professional press is 20 seconds at 375 degrees at med to heavy pressure. I hope you used an epson printer with pigment ink? Hope this helped. Lou

btw just seen you said black do you mean u r using black t's if this is the case u can't use same paper u need it to be for dk cols and u print on plain side but NOT reverse, trim round pattern so none of the white paper is showing, peel the back off place on T the right side up place some greaseproof paper on top or a teflon sheet if u have 1 and press with as heavy a pressure as u can.Let it cool Before removing the paper if u r printing white, ash or very light cols do as Badalou says =) hope this has been helpful.

oh!! dear i really should have read your thread better lol you said "blank" not black lol sorry but at least u will know how to do black should u need it hehe

Thank you for your helpful posts!

I've got as far as printing the designs onto the paper, I'm using my HP Officejet K80 (I know epsom is better) with a 78 Tri-Colour Inkjet Cartridge - not sure if this dye based or pigment based, but just a bog standard cartridge.
There appears to be bleeding on the paper on some of the designs particularly in the darker colours - black and dark blue.
Can you advise what sort of cartridge would be best to use with my printer, I have searched for pigment based ink but can't seem to find what would be best with my HP printer.

I had been using an HP printer too, and although the transfers initially printed beautifully, they faded pretty bad after the first wash.

You're much better off buying the Epson C88+, since they're only like $80 ($50 for refurbished). I tried researching a CIS system for the HP, where I could use pigment inks, and I did finally find one for the HP, but it was like $200. Definitely not cost efficient to go that route, when you can just buy the Epson for $80!

I have to say that I've only done one shirt with the Epson so far, but the results were outstanding!

HTH,
Melissa

As a rule, I don't think HP has had very successful operation in doing transfers with the OEM inks. As Melissa says...the epson c88+ is too check not to check out

yep i agree, i used a epson DX7000F but u need to use the Durabright inks as the look a like ones don't do justice to your design,I personaly don't use that 1 anymore as i have switched to a lazer printer called Oxi C5600 and using Duracotton T/P and the effects r amazing, no bleeds,no hand, col stay bright and don't fade after washing =).At the moment i have to get them from Canada as its cheaper for us and America t/p sizes r smaller then our A4 they are hoping to get a seller set up in Europe (can't wait hehe) I started by buying from e-bay i tried 3 diff company's all calling their paper a different name but it all ended as being the same paper i bought a press from there also and its "ok" but when u decide to get 1 read the threads on this site before buying, I wish i had =(
Good luck with it all.
